Often I see posts where Gunnutz say a cartridge is boring.
For instance it is often posted on this site that a 30-06 round is boring.

I would like to hear from those who think so and what determines this?

In a hunting sense I do not see the value of having an entertaining
round chambered (please enlighten me to what is an entertaining round as opposed to a boring one). I am looking for a round that will do the job.

I find I am entertained by the scenery and thrill of the chase, and this is in no way diminished by the round that is chambered in my rifle:D

Or am I missing something here and do all factory cartridges other than 30-06 come with trivia etched on the brass like pringle potato chips and sweet tart candies?

Just asking

Timo

Maybe they're boring because everything you shoot drops dead.:)
Maybe some people want an exciting cartridge, to track a bear in the bush.

I don't think of any cartridge as boring, but some I have no interest in.

I think boring should be replaced with old news or common. It seems only rifle cartridges suffer from this label. There are few shotgun gauges but no one calls a 12 gauge boring. Strange issue.

Timo Im 100% with you on this.

My theory is that the "boring round" calling people have Little ##### big gun compensation. If you pay attention to a far amount of people calling the .308/30-06 boring you will also notice them suggesting for you to get the magnum calibres like the .300's or greater.

Just a guess lol
Just making fun people dont get offensive

Personally, when I get the money to get my first hunting rifle I will be looking at a .308 or .30-06

Boring is synonymous with penetrating???

Or, like your parent that went to work every day for 50 years, supported their family and put the kids through school to make a better life for them without calling any attention to themself.

But then again, mass murderers and pedophiles aren't boring.

Depends what you value.

Boring is waiting for the forum pages to open these days.....

Shooting, on the other hand, is always fun, no matter what the cartridge.

The 30-06 is indeed boring, because it is common.

It has nothign to do with ##### envy or magnumitis. For instance, a 7-08 is NOT boring, yet it has less power than a 30-06.

Boring doens't mean it's a bad cartridge, of course.

There are those amongst us who just have to have the latest, greatest or perhaps the current "darling" or they feel as if their existence is dull. The 30-06 obviously is none of the above, so it has to stand back as the chambering that has stood the test of time, is capable of taking 99% of all North American shots at game successfully, and is within the recoil tolerance of about 95% of all shooters. On top of that, you would have to be in some obscure location indeed to be unable to find factory ammo for the venerable old warrior. The above statement in no way is intended ti "diss" the plethora of new chamberings out there. For those who want them, I say, more power to them. Just don't fix me with a steely glare and try to tell me that these are "needs";);):D:D Regards, Eagleye.

--- "Boring" --- is what's done when making a shotgun barrel. Once the task is completed, it's referred to as a 10 bore, 12 bore, etc.

I've never referred to a cartridge as boring or making me feel bored. Some rifles I would consider boring, clunky or even ugly. But a cartridge that failed to do what's expected, I would have other adjectives for it.

The 30-06 enjoys a very colorful history --- taking US Armed Forces through many a battle through 3 major wars, being depended on as a reliable sniper cartridge in adverse conditions, winning many a target match, providing table meat for hungry families for near a 100 years, and it's still filling the pages of Boone and Crocket with Trophies.

I consider the 30-06 to be a very interesting cartridge that has served me well over the years. The 30-06 has given me many fond memories.

YEAH, BUT WHY IS IT "BORING" :p

As stated, because it's common. Everyone has one.;)

It's not some new super duper cartridge, nor is it some interesting old time cartridge, either.

The 30-06 worls just fine for all big game in North America, but that can be said about hundreds of other cartridges, too.
:)

Campfire discussions when everyone carries a 30-06 are boring.

Clem:

"Well, I've had a few snorts of this here rotgut, lets talk about our cartridges...The good ol' thurt aught six shore does work. I've been using it for years, works great, better than anything else, I tell ya!"

Jethro:

"Yep"

Jed

"Yep"

Ned Beatty:

"Yep"

...Long pause that goes on for hours....

Soccer is boring, tennis is boring, golf is boring ... Oh, cartridges ? Anything handgun is boring to me, but mostly because I can't hit a barn with one no matter how many differents guns I try ... :p

Boring is refering to normal everyday do all catridges with mild recoil. NOT boring is something that will disclocate your shoulder and still put a smile on your face after firing 5 rounds.

Boring is a gun that goes "bang". NOT boring is a gun that goes "BOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!" + a aftershock the sets off all car alarms in the parking lot a the range. ;)

Boring is 2600 fps. NOT boring is when the bullet goes so fast it sets the air around it on fire. HEHEHE.

I think a cartridge could be said to be boring because it is too easy to load and shoot accurately with. My interest is in getting a single shot black powder rifle to shoot accurately and in some cases that can be extremely challenging to do. On the other hand, a super accurate modern rifle simply means that you have to set much smaller groups as a goal.

Not having any guns to shoot is BORING. Having guns to shoot is GOOD. Sometimes the weirder the better but nothing boring about my 30-06. I havent even started reloading for it yet. Just gets funner and funner. Then there is the 308 and the 223 when I get tired of that. Boring and guns just dont mix for me IMHO but thats just my $0.02. Bring on the Zombies. Got me a 12ga pump now so the Zombie perimeter defense is activated.
