WW1 "Butcher bayonet". I think this is what you have, not to sure but I will watching this thread to find out

Nice butcher bayonet,the leather scabbard is not common.On the spine of the blade is marked year of manufacture,eg:17 for 1917.There will also be a capital letter above the date eg:L or W which is for the monarch of a german state that ordered it.

Often issued with the Kar 98AZ in both standard version and saw-back Pioneer version.

Early ones had nice 2-piece wood grips, but they got charred if the rifle was fired much, owing to the forward position of the bayonet on the AZ.

Later ones had a thin steel strip along the spine of the handle to protect the grips from the flash.
