It might sound offending to some of you, but I honestly don't have the slightest intention to question your expertise.

That said, can anybody tell me why this rifle is valued at $1600.00?

Sorry guys, I really don't see the value here, to me it looks like an old "clunker" not worth a second look.

$400.00 at the high side.

Because it's not a refurb and is a probable vet bring back. If the graffiti were not on the wood, it would be an $1800 rifle due to supply and demand.

As it is, my honest opinion is that retail should not be higher then $1300-1400. The seller, however, feels it's a $1600 rifle and if someone agrees with him and has the money, who am I to tell him he's wrong? ;)

I guess you are right, it's a question of supply and demand...

Just imagine what other quality surplus rifles you can get for $1600.00.

And there are still some people out there complaining about the latest Garand prices tse tse...

Whether prices are out of line or not, to me, is subjective. I look at the historical aspect of the firearm more than the price. If I want it, and can reasonably afford it, I buy it. Without regret, because I am a sucker for the history. Canadian, Japanese, Russian or German, it's all part of the largest conflict this world has ever experienced. And to have a piece of it is almost priceless.
I'm a fool for milsurps, and I know I overspend, but it doesn't bother me one bit. All are nice looking 98s, and I don't think those prices are out to lunch.

I agree with joe. Prices are pretty much in line. I paid a similar price for one this year. The only thing that put the prices of these over the top is taxes. $1800 rifle comes to $2034 without shipping. That is a bit high imho, but it is a retail price point and taxes go with that. :(
Polaris, ill give you $500 per rifle like these you bring me! Haha
