Did you phone down to the firearms center and inquire? Regardless of what someone might say on here, it's the RCMP you have to deal with if they "come a lookin".
Is it an antique? If so, then no, you don't have to do anything, though it would be advised.
If it's a modern reproduction percussion gun, then yes, it's still a firearm. Removing the nipple is an interesting issue since most provinces seem to allow you to transport a muzzle loader during hunting season with powder/ball in it in a vehicle if the nipple has been removed... that is however a provincial regulation, so you would end up needing to trigger lock for display I think... or really any other "controlling" device.
