My IPSC instructor likes the thumb roll, I can see why, you are actually blocking the hammer. I saw a couple people just lowering with with their thumb and it made me a bit nervous. A couple years ago I almost had a ND with my 45-70 lowering the hammer. It slipped and clicked, but not hard enough, so I can understand blocking it with your thumb and rolling out of the way.

I chose a Glock 22, because 9mm is for ladies and shootin' poodles. :)

I am a lady, so, G17 will do just fine, lol ;) Besides, you are not allowed to hunt with handgun, so to shoot poodles I would rather go with a fine AW.338 LM than .40 :D

(just in case if you wonder why I need a tactical 1500 meter rifle - this is for reaching poodles on my neighbor's farm, that's why!!!

Get your thumb high enough on the hammer spur so the pad overlaps the hammer a little at the front, providing a buffer. This will prevent the hammer from slipping forward as you lower it. I don't like the pinch method for that reason. And the widely-touted thumb-roll is not a technique that is universal - it won't work on most S&W revolvers, for example.

We prefer a method that is both safe and universal.
 
for production,i would pick either the glock or the CZ shadow. the glock you need a trigger job for sure excepting if you feel good about trigger creeping and the trigger travel. the shadow is great out of the box,the trigger too, but it can even get better with lill work......the CZshadow, cocked&locked, the glock you cant see the striker, but however it's cocked & locked too!lolol

i own and use both,for production one or the other would do fine...

i wonder why you mentionned the CZ SP01 tactical...is it in 9mm or .40?? i've waited a full year for my order wich was CZ SP01 tactical .40, but even not a single 1 landed in the whole country, i finaly picked a CZ TS in .40....not the same gun i know, but because of that i choose to go standard..

CZSP01 Tactical was another CZ option (besides the shadow or the tactical sports) that my dealer said he can get in either 9mm or .40. He did not mention however how much time it will take to get them.:confused:

bbéhéhé if you can find a CZ SP01 tactical in .40 NIB(or even used) just tell me,i'd realy like to find one....london arms told me they had many in orders since so many long he cant even remember...mine has been on order since may09 and it never landed...i even called tcheco to see what was the whole deal..

The tactical does have a some advantages if you're uncomfortable with manually lowering the hammer. Obviously it's a de-cocker, but when you de-#### the hammer it only drops to to half ####. This shortens the double action for your first pull (IPSC Production class) which is a huge benefit for people with smaller hands. If trigger quality is high on your priority list, the tactical will not be as good as the shadow due to the extra linkage for the hammer drop and the addition of the firing pin block which the shadow doesn't have.
