THe easier solution is to use the LAR 10 rounders. I know the P-mags are cool but......I don't really care about how cool you look!

I didn't go with Pmags because of the look, I got them because at 30$ shipped they were the cheapest I could find at the time (Back when certain dealers were selling usgi mags at +50$). :p

Plus, its hard to use the mag as a mono pod with a short 10 round LAR mag. And I wouldn't even think of using a coupled mag, getting all sort of crap in it and probably damaging the feed lips.

H&K SL8 with mag well adapter to accept LAR mags.

This, I highly recommend, admittedly, the SL8's require a bit of work to be ergonomically better than they are in stock configuration (which in itself is not bad, but the G36 ergonomics are better), however they are ridiculously easy to clean and ultra reliable. Plus, there are plenty of them available on the EE, so you could snatch up a deal.

The XCR, well, it's solidly built, but I always fear injuring myself when taking it apart.

Oh, you are evil! :jerkit: There is one actually on EE right now with HERA mag well adapter already installed and price is tempting... (*and she's mentaly repeating to herself - put that credit card down...slowly...now back off...slowly...breath...breath... :D*).

Put a boot on the bottom to bring the length to that of a 30. Then it will work out of pouches, and be usable as a rest, and as an aid when position shooting.

I won't use a SL8 for service rifle. The optic mount is way too high for going down on a low prone using magazine as monopod. I will only use a G36 system if I have the KAC rear rail which sits the optics low.

They are good rifles for popping on a bench, but not service rifles. The original G36 dual optics sits much lower....but sadly that Hensoldt optic is a POS.

So XCR will be a good choice I guess. I wonder, do you guys use different optics for CQB and long range? I was under impression that CQB is done with no magnification + co-witness with BUIS while the long range will require magnification?

ps sorry for the dumb n00b questions. I am in training.

Are you talking about Service Rifle Match 2 (15-50m) or the "CQB" matches? I shot that match with a 4x ACOG and did well. I think the guy who scored the highest in that match used an Elcan.

Thank you. :) I will check the optics you mentioned. As far as my research goes (may be wrong) the service rifle match distances can be for CQB match (upto 50m) and long range as Shelldrake describes in the sticky thread:
What ranges (distances) will I need to be able to shoot at?

100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 metres/yards.

I wondered if happens that those matches are held together than what kind of optics you will use on your rifle to accomodate short and long range shooting. This is where I am puzzled. My info sources regarding service rifle matches are limited to this forum and to what I could find online. After I watch a couple of matches "in person", I hope to get more info/answers in the field.

You can shoot everything with a 4 power scope. Soldiers shoot everything from 25-500m with a 3.4X Elcan.

Thank you. :) From their website sounds like a superb quality scope. They also have Specter DR 1-4x where you can switch from 1xCQB to 4x right away with the throw of lever. I wonder how the two compare as far as match requirements are concerned since 3.4x is a fixed magnification and you cannot use it for CQB (?)
