Eeeek... Hate to tell ya this bud but you got jipped.... Someone was sleeping at the factory... That rifle is missing its forward assist!

Lmao... JK

Nice "vintage" iron ya got there!! Good find!

Beauty... I saw a young guy at the range with one just like it... said his grandfather bought it when it was non-restricted and transferred it to him... he had no idea how much it was worth I told him to take care of it.

A nice Colt bayonet and bipod would look great on it. I only have one Hartford Colt bayonet, and bipod. I think I have a couple of German Colt bayonets. What markings are on the upper receiver just below the rear sight, Possibly on the right side.
The gun would be light as a feather compared to some of the Canadian military C7s.
In the cleaning kit did they come with a screwdriver?

(1973 made Colt SP1) Great rifle, that would be on my wall in glass case if I could (fully functional of course). Wish I could have been around back then to be able to enjoy that out in the woods or on a farm.

Love it just the way it is... don't change it of turn it into a plumbers nightmare with accessories - it's perfect like that. Looks alot like the one I had in the non-restricted AR days... It was the deathbringer to many a groundhog and fluffy bunny...

You are gonna love shooting it! I have a '71 SP1 and it's so refreshingly light compared to the other AR I had with all the "stuff" hanging off it.
If you're looking for a 3-prong FH to replace the A1, I bought one for $20 delivered from www.oldsargesdropzone.com

I agree. I have a "pencil barrel" 20 ar, done up retro (triangular guards, etc), amazing how much lighter it feels than my "modern" 14.5" with toys on it. BIG difference. It reminds you why the platform was adopted in the first place. Congrats on your new rifle!

Classic colt sp1

Great looking rifle that appears all original, the Colt SP1's never had a forward assist that was done for the M-16A1 US military contract ones, also they were never colour coordinated I have owned new ones in the box that had lighter grey uppers and darker lowers they were not colour matched at the factory, last the cleaning kit never came with a screw driver just brushes and rods the military ones came with a small poly oil bottle and an O.D. sleeve that was carried in the buttstock. You beat me to her, I was eyeballing that one to. Enjoy a classic.

Funny I owned 3 back in the late 70's early 80's & they all were the same color :D
