i can't say much regarding the case, all i use at the moment is a flambeau double rifle case, and i am in the same boat as i really want a good hard case, but am unsure of what to get.
as to cleaning equipment, i really like my dewey 1 piece coated swivel rod's, and a bore guide as well.
another cleaning "rod" i always liked was the weighted string, pull through type, but i don't see them anywhere, just screw together steel or dewey's 1 piece's.

This is extremely popular now, just called a "bore snake" any outdoor store has them for all caliber ranges from .17 to 12ga.

I bought my pelican case from w ww.optimalcaseandlights.com/store/1750_Case.html

i'm not a fan of the bore snake's, what i meant is the string with one weighted end, and an eyelet on the other end for feeding patches thru.
i feel bore snakes are fine for range or camp cleaning, but a good rod and patches are needed for a thorough cleaning.

Dewey 1pc Coated Rod
I use the Pelican "Clone" from Doskosport/Gunguard for my target rig which is available at Wholesale for $169.99

X 2 on dewey very good product. boresnakes seem like a ####ey system just wondering how you clean the snake itself? doesn't it get all fillthy in a hurry?

For a rod, go with a Dewey 1 piece coated rod hands down, also the Otis sniper M40A3 kit is really good to take into the field with you. As for the case, go with the Gun Guard one that looks like the Pelican but costs far less, I think they are between$120-$130 at LeBaron if you want a hard case, but look into a DRAG BAG before you buy hard case. I can fit everything I need for rifle shooting at the range into my drag bag, rifle, ammo, spotting scope, binoculors, cleaning stuff even a bottle of water and some snacks.

Can't beat the Dewey cleaning rod and nothing compares to a genuine Pelican 1750! Best hard case on the planet. Expensive, but you get what you pay for, lifetime guarantee if you manage to break the thing. For me, $300 for a rifle case is a small investment on the 5K rifle that resides in the case.

Peli 1750 $209 @ Cabelas in Washington. I would have bought one but all they had in stock was tan. You know if you are heading that way.

Got mine in the US as well for under $170 total. After shipping and taxes it was less than $210 delivered to my door. This was a couple of years ago mind you. They were going for about $330 in Canada at the time.

Bought more ammo with the $130 I saved. Ammo whore.

Dewey one piece and for travel I use a Starlight hard case similar to the pelican, however 90% of the time I use my Arktis drag bag. I just find the drag bag easier to transport and in gereral more convenient.

I have a Pelican and love it. It's been to Africa and back and is none the worse for wear. I've even gone as far as to get different foam cutouts for different rifles.

As for cleaning rods, I defy anyone to find a better rod than a Dewey. If you do, let me know! I've got a whole family of them and am thoroughly satisfied.

Dewey rod and forget the hard case unless you are flying with it. If you fly take it apart and use the shortest case you can. Use a soft case and spend the money you save towards more guns!

Bang on advice ! The less length the better. The luggage gorillas have enough trouble with soft sided sports bags.

I have a cheapo hardshell case that is showing its age, but needed to improve it before a hunting trip. The solution was six masonite pieces to go around the four sides, top and bottom. When it is locked, there is no twisting or bending. Plus it weighs 15 lbs vs 45 lbs when full. The airlines are reducing carryon size, checked luggage weights and whacking passengers for excess baggage.

I used a Starlight case (the smaller size). I am very happy with it. However, next time I will get the wheel package as well. I am just too lazy to carry everything now. I bought it from a store in Edmonton for $150 - 170 about 1-2 years ago.
Give them a shout. I also bought a UK case for my pistol as well.

Check the length of your barrel. I just went through the same decision and bought a Doskosport/Gunguard AWR case from WS. The decision came down to the fact my 'F' class rifle has a 28" barrel and adjustable buttplate. The rifle length wouldn't fit into either the Starlight or Pelican. These cases are 50" while the AWR is 52" long. Also, I really didn't need the extreme protection offered by the Pelican. Slightly cheaper also but that wasn't the driving concern like the overall length of the rifle. Steve

Used both the Pelican and Storm cases and found them to be almost identical. Both are excellent. As for cleaning rods, as mentioned the dewey is the industry std. Lucas, Stoney Point and Dewey make good bore guides. I would not let a bore snake come within 10 feet of any of my rifles. Every time you pull that thing through, you are just dragging all kinds of #### from the previous cleaning through your barrel. Even if you clean the bore snake, it still has crap on it which you pull through your barrel. Like cleaning your custom barrel with dirty patches. If you choose a quality drag bag, it will cost as much or more than a good hard case. The choice however is yours.
