I'm far from being an expert in the subject but it appears to me that the date stamp of 1876 behind the bolt handle is the date of manufacture for your carbine and the 77 indicates the year accepted into service. I believe I read this somewhere on one of the Gunboards forums awhile back. Very nice Mauser by the way.
 
Is not the date on the right side of receiver acceptance date? I recall some 71s have two dates several years apart. This one has 1876 and 1877.

Check the top of the buttplate for Unit Identification letters and numbers. Oesterr Waffb. GES manufactured the smallest amount of these, most common were Danzig and Spandau.
