Then, what's the actual alloy? Some alloys are weldable under reasonable circumstances, some, not.

Then you need to find a heat treater to cook it up back to heat aged hardness, which is still going to be softer than the work hardened and heat treated state the forgings are in before they are machined. Then, of course, it will need to be refinished. Be a money maker for someone.

Realistically, what you need is a CNC Machinist that is willing to skim of the roll marks and engrave what you want on the new surface produced. Remember full well that there is a limited amount of material there to work with.

Near as I know, the only marking that you cannot #### about with, is the Serial Number. Feel free to erase the makers name and replace it wit yet another Punisher Skull or Bible quote as you see fit, as long as you do not touch the serial number.

Anyone with better info on markings, feel free to post link.

Would I touch a job like that? Not with a 20 foot pole, or a bucket of large denomination bills attached to it.

Cheers

7075 is not one of the aluminums that should ever be welded. If you want to redo the thing then fill the markings with devcon or another filler and re-engrave. The only refinishing method that would work would be to ceracote the surface, or use some of ther sort of "paint".

Best to go to one of the companies that specialize in making AR15 lowers here in Canada and put in a special order for what you want done. Or you could get a 80% machined lower, finish it and then have done what you want, remembering to register it with the CFO once it's complete.

You want someone to weld up roll marks on an ALUMINUM receiver? Give your head a shake man! That's not gonna happen EVER!

Beyond the metallurgical reasons nobody is going to do that work, it may be illegal to remove manufacturing marks from a firearm receiver.

"NO", I never sad "I wanted someone to weld up roll marks on an ALUMINUM receiver" Where do I say that in my post! Instead of bashing someone, why don't you read carefully, and try and help them in a positive way!

l was asking for help with finding a local Gunsmith/Welder for some custom work, so I only "briefly" explained what work I want done. I "NEVER" said anything about welding a receiver and or illegally removing the manufacture roll marks that can't be removed legally.

I said I wanted some "original Roll Marks filled in", but filled in with what? well I don't know, that's why I wanted to speak with a professional Gunsmith/Welder to see what options I have based on the issues with welding aluminum rifle receiver. I know all about the issues with welding aluminum, especially a rifle receiver.

The term "Gunsmith/Welder" was used in my post because some melting of metal may be required to pour into the small roll marks that I want removed, so an experienced gunsmith who has welding experience was what I was looking for, someone who could tell me "What Can" and "Can Not" be done, only after I fully explain what it is that I want have done.

The vast majority of gunsmiths have some CNC machinist training so I felt it was not necessary to include that I'm looking for a machinist as the term gunsmith should have suffice.

If you most know, the CFO is fully aware of my intent. After discussions with the CFO & the CFO technician for technical decisions, I was told it was "100% legal" to do what I have planed for my lower, No problems!

I've never heard of Devcon, I knew this type of thing existed but have no knowledge of this product. This is exactly the type of easy solution I want to use, with no melting of metal or welding of any kind! Thanks very much for informing me about this! Cheers ;-)

Thanks, trev?

I actually thanked you for your comments above, now you call me a twot? I deleted my post to avoid any more negative comments from people who have nothing better to do. What ever man, see ya!
