Always was interested in the 788...just picked up a nice clean version in 7mm08.

Any suggestions/experience with ammo preferences?
What twist are these short lil barrels?

Using it for deer at 100m or so as well as coyotes whenever. Ballistic performance will be plenty regardless so looking more to see what bullet weight the short barrel and whatever twist these things are prefers.
PS No setup to reload so looking for factory ammo

Try the Hornady SST factory ammo with 139 grain bullets for deer.

Best groups I ever got out of my 788 7mm-08 carbine were with 139 gr Hornadys. Twist should be 1-9. - dan

Don't own one but like the 788's !

The 788 I had liked 140 gr bullets, this would include 139 gr Interlocks, but as others have said, try a variety of ammo and make your decision based on accuracy and terminal performance.
