Somebody was obviously keeping score on this 9.3x57 Husqvarna M98, but I have no idea what they mean. As a rule, I prefer not to disfigure my guns.
The double rifle in your first photo is a Westley Richards best .577 nitro that once belonged to Stewart Granger. The little 'c' beside each hash mark indicates a charge.

Saw the title and wondered what a Tally mark was. Guess now I need to hack into the plastic stock of my remington 870 to track my Turkey kills...

That first one is a gorgeous piece of work made from a gorgeous piece of wood.
 
As told to me, an Oregon rancher notched the stock of his rifle for deer and elk kills.
When checked by a CO, the question was about the notches on the rifle.
The more numerous were attributed to elk and the lesser was conservation officers!
