They're complete surplus IDF kits minus the chopped receiver. You may need to shim the gas system and any other regular upgrades to an M14 (match guide rod) but they are a great kit.

are these a decent parts kit to build a nork m14 id be just using the receiver and possibly the stock from the nork. 2nd question any good m14 smiths in ontario that could install it?

these are great kits to build a rifle on a decent norinco receiver. Tactical Teacher should be able to refer a smith in Ontario. shoot him a message.

Vulcan gunworks outside of Windsor does nice work on them.

I would suggest keeping an eye out for next time Tactical Teacher runs an M14 clinic close by.
Show up with the parts and you will learn a ton while you put it all together there.
You may not get into headspacing and lapping, but you will have an assembled kit when you are done. Did I also mention a ton of knowledge?
He also has that joke he knows. :d

I’ve done a few builds with the IDF parts. The one kit had a fairly worn oprod tab. The rest of the parts were good. I see they are on sale at the moment. Tempted to grab another but I better not.

don't be like that, dive in, get a couple more. they half price now. I got a couple more today

is the barrel in the kit usable for a chicom hybrid? does it index properly or does it need peening on the crush shoulder usually??

from my point of view, "any" M14 (USGI, Chinese, aftermarket US) or M1 Garand barrel that has been removed from a receiver, will need the torque shoulder massaged before reinstalling. It is the correct way anyways.

ive built a few, 12 I think most of them needed to have the shoulder adjusted. think I had 4 turn in just right. those were all on old old norc recievers

We just assembled one IDF kit on a 2007 Norc receiver yesterday at the Oshawa M14 Clinic. Good times. Great people! Much learning! The best part is a quick turn around. No need to send it off to a gunsmith to assemble. The best part is that YOU do the work. I and Ceejay and Just Having some fun get to stand over you and eyeball the parallels during the final indexing process....

What’s not to like?

Cheers, Barney

the price of those kits right now is truly crazy....
I'm very tempted 2 snap a couple up before they are gone forever

Are those used barrels better than what comes with a Norinco? If my headspace is in spec, is there any value in swapping over to the parts that would come in that package?

Far from a expert ... but the nork barrels are 1/10 twist

IDF barrels ar 1/12 twist chromed lined made by var mauf .,. trw win ih maybe a few others

the nork Barrels I have put a gauge to check the headspace .. a field gauge goes in no problem ;( ... that's not a problem its just life
if you are shooting steel case or not reloading...

Its a Iron sighted rifle that shoots ... and is fun to shoot

the few i have been in the same room with a IDF kit and we check the headspace on a nork receiver a no gauge will not close and a go closes ;) :) ..
if I am checking a IDF barrel on a nork, I am not even going to try the fields gauge

Idf Kits

the stock is a modified Fiberglass USGI Stock

prob repainted 2-3 times with chips / dings etc and will have to be fitted to a nork receiver ... file sand, strip and file/ fit / paint ... jb weld is your friend

if you compare this stock to the norc chewwood stock or the plastic stock ... the nork stock is garbage .... do you want to buy one ?

Save the metal hardware from the Nork stock you can use them on a boyd's .... :) if you like the look of real wood :)

I would buy one if there was a significant advantage over my existing Norinco M305 in terms of accuracy. I currently have an ex IDF bolt in mine, and it headspaces out very close to the minimum headspace. Accuracy ranges from 5 shots at 1.5" with hand loads of 168 smk's, to easily triple that with some factory ammo. It's currently bedded in a GI Fiberglass stock, welded unitized gas system, Smith Scope mount, and muzzle brake. I have others that I don't take very seriously, so whatever accuracy they achieve is good enough.
