My philosophy is not firing that weapon is like taking Barbara Eden (I know I am showing my age) out for an evening of dinner and dancing and at the end refusing to swap spit with her for fear of mussing up her hair and smearing her lipstick! You are missing out on a lot of excitement.

Unissued is only saving a miniscule amount of value for a future buy back. Enjoy them while you can, they are better shot and used than handed in "mint"

yes id shoot them but I wouldn't use corrosive ammo.

its like having a classic.
take it out for a Sunday drive, but always use the best gas you can and don't drive gravel roads.
Then you have your beater that you drive in the winter

But having something that just sits behind glass and never gets used is shame

I would not, however if I have an unissued milsurp, or one fresh out of arsenal rework/museum grade/etc, I'll have a shooter to enjoy instead as I do for the latter.

Not only would I shoot it, I would try my hardest to wear it out, SKS's are workhorse battle rifles and deserve to be shot, they are crudely built and I personally cant imagine any of them as collectable but to each his own. I wonder how many SKS rifles have been made in the world by the Chicoms, Russians and whoever else ?

I will shoot all of my firearms - bought new or used. Buying new and holding (and never shooting) could be an investment for some, but not for me. As I'm getting older and none of my kids care about firearms/hunting/fishing I figure that my wife will just be liquidating my stuff once i pass on. Hence, I will use them as much as I want to enjoy them.

Imagine buying a "new" FN-FAL or other rifle back in the day, never shooting it, and now having it stuck in your safe forever. Not for me.

And I do shoot corrosive out of any of my guns (and clean them well afterwards).

My $0.02

If you owned these, would you shoot them or keep them in storage?

Both unfired, unissued, non referb letter series sks

If these two are all you have, shoot the one you like less and keep the other one as is.

Btw, what criteria do you use to claim that these rifles are unissued? Were you a Soviet supply officer in the 1950’s? You can tell if they were refurbished or not, but they are all test fired at the arsenal. To me, claims like these are like saying that the 1, 2, or 3 stamped on the front sight relate to accuracy.

They were originally purchased with that description "unissued". You are right now though. There is no definitive proof they are unissued, other than they appear unfired, mag followers have mint blueing and bolt face is perfect and no wear on any other metal where the bolt slides. It is entirely possible they were issued and then never fired and eventually stored in cosmoline.

I feel if you want an investment, buy an investment. If you want a gun, buy a gun. The only reason we think SKS has collector value is because of the F-ed up import ban in the USA artificially pumping up their prices. Otherwise, there would be no perceived collector value anyway.

Many SKS in Canada arrived unfired. That is kind of the whole point. They sat in warehouses waiting for the eventual war with America that never came. My Chinese SKS I bot from Cabela's was unfired. Unfortunately, the serials didn't match (like, at all).

If I was dating a super model, I would shag her. Cuz you know the next guy will.

So, yes I would shoot it. Value wouldn’t diminish much especially now.

If you have an SKS that your shooting then leave them as is if not shoot one of them. SKS's are a fun shoot
