It's not a very good plinker...too much recoil. Probably a poor choice to buy as a first rifle, but since you have it you can make it work. The 300 WSM is an outstanding hunting round, probably the only really successful WSM cartridge.

Best handload will really depend on yoru rifle. The Savage tends to shoot pretty well but lightweight rifles can be finnicky, especially if you shoot too much too fast and get the barrel hot. Otherwise you have a pretty decent rig.

Wow, thats quite the score you found there. 300WSM ammo is impossible to find right now. You could/should? sell 10 boxes of it and get your 1000 back. 110 ultralights are really nice rifles IMO. Not a good caliber for plinking though. In such a lightweight rifle it will beat you up pretty good but 300WSM is a great hunting round for anything in north america really...

Wow what a deal that is. I would sell it on the EE and get something better for a learning platform. If I was brand new I would be buying a Tikka T3X stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor or possibly 308. Cheap ammo and both are great calibres to start with.

WSM ammo is 80-120 $ a box and it’s very difficult to find. 6.5 and 308 you can get ammo starting around $40. Less recoil and twice the practice ammo. Both are excellent for hunting with quality hunting ammo.

They package would likely sell for $1800-2k which is enough to get in to something a bit more practical.

I have this exact rifle which I use in a MDT XRS (the same chassis is also used for my other 110 with heavy barrel in 308). Like others have said, it is not a blinking rifle. I reload which negates the specific problem sourcing 300 WSM ammo.

You paid a very low price for the kit though and it is a very capable hunting rig for larger game. If you can afford to buy something in 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, you would have more fun shooting and practicing technique with that and it could also serve hunting deer, black bear, etc.

Great gun for some target shooting at the range.
I had one in 7PRC , found it really finicky to find a load it liked though.
Think maybe the stock and how light it was may have contributed to that though.
It do point nice though.

I really think the 300 WSM is better than the 300 win in a few area's
I have one in a Tikka laminate , love it , shoots nice
Good choice

I had a 300WSM in a Tikka T3 Lite. Recoil was stout, but it was quite accurate, no surprise there as it was a Tikka. If I were to do it again a T3x Hunter with heavier barrel profile in straight 300Win would be my choice.
