If they are BBs for an air rifle DO NOT reload them. They are of a harder steel and could mess up your barrel.

Commercial steel shot is pretty hard, but if BB gun projectiles are made the same today as when I wore short pants, they are made from copper or a copper alloy not steel. As such they should be safe enough to push through a smooth bore, but I'm not sure if they have enough mass to pattern very well. Pattern a few and see how they perform and if the idea is worth pursuing.

Not copper anymore just copper plated and two to three times harder than the normal steel shot used in shot guns. Some guys have tried it but I definately would not.

Guys shoot tungsten and all types of steel. If your shotgun is modern with an open choke you will be fine. Of more concern is what load data are you planning on using?

Shotgun reloading is touchy, so make sure your load data is appropriate for your components.

IF you actually meant lead BBs, then go for it.

Yes they do guys like me all the time but they are factory loaded or reloaded to tested proven formulations.
Do you have the safe load data for regular BB's to share if not how can you say it is safe. How hard is the steel shot we normally use vs BB. At least 2-3 times harder, how hard is tungsten vs BB?? Got all that data and proven if not I would not be suggesting another member try it.
If so called safe why do some put a warning on the BB bottle not to use it in shotgun reloads??
I have been reloading steel in three gauges for many years and most loades are on the high end of the pressue scale and cannot be altered.
I just cant understand why anyone would even considered using air gun ammo in their loads unless it was for A.some kind of novelty or B.they were absolutely desperate and no other means of componentsI need another rum

Why, aren't you using a shot cup?

If the shot is inside the shot cup, it should be fine.

Depends how tight the choke is, though. Copper BBs should be fine in a choke made to take steel.
