Better then anything made out of Alberta? ATRS have been building 50 calls for quite some time now? Longer then PGW has as far as I am aware.
That all sounds great except you didn't provide any information about how they produce there actions? That was the point of the thread.
No one is bashing anyone's product, just trying to gather some information and then compare it to other well known high quality products
Do you know how simple it is to do a rockwell hardness test? That is no sign of a pro.
Anyhow I am gonna step in here against my better judgement because getting sucked into an unfounded bulls**t thrashing of someone or their product on the internet is classless. SO be it. I am that guy.
Have you ever met Ross or Steve??? Have you ever been to their facitlity in Winnipeg?? (actually they don't have a storefront sign... likely you have not) Have you ever handled a PGW action or rifle? Have you talked witht he Canadian Forces to see what they think of their products?
The PGW actions, rifles, Barrels (which are Krieger) stocks, triggers and accessories are the finest of their kind in the world. I would put them well beyond AI, better than Barrett, better than the Macmillan Tac 50 and way better than anything out of Alberta.
I'm here to tell you that PGWDTI makes some of the finest components in the world. SOme of the finiest rifles in the world and are run by two of the finest gentlemen in the indusrty.
If you are worried about their quality, just drink from the CGN koolaid and buy a Stevens 200 or a Savage and see mysticalwhatzit. I'm sure he can make you something that will be as accurate as hell. Just look at the raton scores to see for yourself.
Do they actually build 50 cals? Thought they weren't building their own actions yet... So all they would give you would be bat's specs and charge you 100 bucks to do it![]()
Here is the SS they are using
http://www.cartech.com/ssalloysprod.aspx?id=2822
Did you even look at there website under the specs, it clearly states
Receiver material: Stainless Steel Pr. 70 416
Take a look what BAT Machine does
http://www.batmachine.com/products/actionspecs.htm
Pre hardened steel to 36-38 RC only for the receiver.
I know their .50 BMG actions are made from stainless. I know the guy that cuts their raw blanks. Stainless is certainly strong enough for a .50 calibre rifle action, but it needs some hardness in order to resist galling on the locking lugs. It could be a precipitation hardening stainless, such as 17-4 PH? I could find out, but I wouldn't share the information on this forum, that's up to Ross and Steve to divulge. Having said that, if there was any question regarding the integrity of their actions, they wouldn't have any government contracts! JMTC
I don't get all the grief being dished out on this thread. It's a legit question. The competition lists their specs. If you hear rumours it would be nice to rule them out as BS before dropping 8-10K.
For that type of money Id be doing all the research I could as well. Heck I do that with everything I buy.
Read up on the OP s 50 cal posts. These questions are from a legit potential customer.
The 1st 50 cal actions I built were made in 2004. Very simple but incredibly strong single shots based on the Eastridge action that my friend Larry Lyle owner of Eastridge State arms makes.
The shell holder style as mentioned is very strong, but slow and has recieved only some desire. Most seem to feel a repeater is desireable for some strange reason. Apparently "look cool" factor is 1 of the more important prerequisites to buying a rifle. A repeater is much more expensive to make and anyone who figures a fast and accurate follow up shot is possible with a 50 is sadly uneducated about the caliber.
We have been very busy the last 2 years making actions inhouse that rival the best offerings of Neskia, Defiance, BAT, Surgeon and some that don't come to mind right now.
We are NOT currently building an action big enough for a 50, but the plans are to do so in the New Year by scaling up our Maverick action.
Currently to fill the needs of some of our clients desire for an extremely accurate custom built 50 we are using BAT actions but can supply a Defiance action if requested.
Once we get dug out on the backlog of Infidel and Maverick actions we have on the go, the Beast will be going into production.![]()
