hey guys, finally got some pictures up for those interested. Im not a professional photographer but they should do the trick. This rifle is a thing of beauty. If I could shoot it I would love it even more lol

1918A2 - 1954 - Royal Typewriter Co

and now the sad photos :(

I'm gonna take some time and clean this rifle up tonight. I'm not really a collector of things I can't shoot though so I will probably get rid of it at some point.

Thanks again for all the info guys.

Sounds like one of the ex-RCAF BARs from Downsview cut and sold forty odd years ago.
Strictly speaking, it is a demil, not a dewat.

Destroyed by cutting, as opposed to rendered inoperable by welds.
Some of those BARS had Armaloy cast receivers - real pig to fill in the cuts with weld for a cosmetic dewat.

Incidentally, those guns were essentially as new when torched.

My dad actually bought this guy... About forty odd years ago lol. Some parts of it still had cosmoline on it. So it's a demill then? I'm not very well versed in this area. Lol

I find it interesting how some sellers state "no picture collectors".

This is usually one of the signs to run away, because it's one of my tip offs that I'm dealing with a bad seller.

Of course we need quality photos to discuss or consider buying this type of item ;) ;)

Condition is a part of the question...asking someone to set a price on a "DEWAT BAR M1918" is difficult...consider which variant is it?

Is it an early 1918? Is it an A1? An A2? Is it actually a Colt Monitor? Is it a BAR-D (Belgian one?)

These details can often be picked out from a picture, which can help determine pricing.

Not to mention condition...

What would a dewat in this condition be worth?

How about this one as a cutaway?

Or how about this one?

If you want us to help you determine an honest ball-park price for your DEWAT, well, either a better description, or a decent set of photos would be of considerable aid.

Seeing as there were 8+ different manufacturers, and by a quick perusal of Wikipedia (always known for it's accuracy) I can come up with almost 20 different variants of model, plus different caliber options.

Suppose you have one of the Swiss KG m/37's....and one of the people on here is a collector of Swiss arms...and the KG m/37 is the last gun they need to complete their collection...that person could be willing to pay almost any price to get your gun.

I'll tap out at this point, because you obviously believe most of the people here are tire-kickers who want to waste your time, so I'll stop wasting mine now.

Woooooowww! Easy! First of all, this isn't a WTS ad. Second of all I have said multiple times now that I'm gonna post some detailed pictures as soon as I get the chance. And third of all, there is no reason a ball park price on the description couldn't be thrown out lol I'm not at antiques road show looking for a appraisal. I like firearms as much as the next CGNer and enjoy sharing with the community. Maybe next time you could read the whole thread before breaking my balls.

Thanks

Navyshooter is very eloquently demonstrating the importance of clarity when asking even a ballpark value. Given the very limited info you provided, I would say 0 - 3500 bucks.
You must consider that not only are there 20 some variants of "1918 BAR's", but there are several types of Dewats/Demils/Deactivations, ranging from torch cuts and horrible weld ups, to gorgeous #### and click examples.
The difference in value between extremes could easily be 2500 bucks or more right now. #### and Click deactivations are worth a couple times more than actual full auto survivors right now simply because everyone can own a dewat and very few can own a full auto, and they cant even get a permit to go shoot them.

Yup. Respect lefty. Once again pics to come. Would you like to me remove this thread until then? Lol :)

Although I doubt there is a M1918 anywhere in any condition worth $0.

Hey, no worries. In this market a nasty torch cut 1918a2 ex RCAF or Korean war example will still likely bring 1400-1800 dollars. Lots of guys want them for vehicle displays or re-enactment/living history type stuff. That plus the fact you can openly hang them on display makes any dewat valuable.
Sadly. A gentleman of my aquaintance had an incredible collection of 12-2 full autos. A couple years ago, when they stopped issuing SAP permits to go to the range, he deactivated them all to #### and click. On a happier note he sold every one of them for 3 times the live full auto value. Now he only sells books.
I can only see more of this in the future as full auto guys get sick of watching their guns devalue daily, except there won'tbe any new #### and clicks, just solid paper weights.

Thanks a bunch lefty. This rifle was torched many years ago. It has cut on the receiver through the ejection port from magwell to top with bolt cut too. And a hole or two torched into the barrel. Is there any changes to deactivation laws I should be aware of that could affect the status of it? I believe it will still #### and click.

Thanks

One suggestion is to NOT go trotting off to the RCMP with a long laundry list of burning "questions" regarding your dewat. For reasons I will never understand, there have been a couple folks here that have done so and by doing so potentially bring dewated firearms under the RCMP microscope. Lots of sound advice available on this forum so enjoy your dewat, display it, sell it, etc, but no need to go stirring up the powers that be of the Mounties.
