I have been toying around with the Idea of buying a bunch of brass for a certain rifle I have that shoots 7.62x39. I just don't like all the corrosive stuff. The only thing is, this high quality rifle dents each and every case when it ejects it. I am not sure if I will get many loads out of the cases if they are getting beat to hell like this after only one shot. Any comments? suggestions?
 
I never even thought about fixing the problem. Thats a good idea, I will have a closer look at what is going on in the thing next time I'm shooting it. I just thought it was part of its charm ;)

Probably a smart move if I'm going to spend more on empty brass than the original cost of the rifle.
 
If the rifle is former Warsaw pact it might have oversized chambers and if "brass" is used instead of steel the case could rupture... More knowledgeable people can cue in here.
 
If it has a fixed ejector, rather than a spring loaded button type, it will leave a dent in the rim.
The extractor drives the base of the case into the ejector, and bends the hell out of it. AK's are famous for this, how is the SKS?
 
I started thinking about this last night, and it seems to me that my other sks, a "d" does the same thing. I think I will get a few brass rounds and see what they look like coming out of the thing. Brass will probably bend a whole lot more than the steel cheapo ones. Probably not a great choice for reloading.
 
You haven't mentionned how bad the dents are. If they are just cosmetic, reloading shouldn't be affected. But excessive case expansion/resizing, headspace issues and primer sensitivity should be considered. I used to reload for my AKM without any problems. You'll have to decide if it is appropriate with your rifle.
 
They are just cosmetic. My only concern ist that the cases won't last for too many reloads. I think the best idea is just to start by buying a bag of fifty and seeing how it goes. Or just suck it up and shoot the corrosive stuff.
 
i had a sks and as thinking about reloading for it but there are not much choices for bullets in the market, wolf performance and silver bear were the rounds i used , they are great blasters decided to get a308 instead a clear better choice for my needs ,,
 
i know of a few guns a couple friends own that just chews up the brass .it puts a large dent like a crease in the side distorts the rim and disforms the mouth a bit and theres little we can come up with to fix it...i was unaware the sks did this as well
