i noticed the other day my poly tech m14 dents the shoulders is this normal? should i stop shooting it till i figure out the problem? im not too familiar with this rifle just shot her a couple times
I have about 250 rounds through my norinco m14 and except my stupid mistake of not completely cleaning the chamber , all my brass comes out near perfect . i just deprimed all the brass the other day and gave me the chance to inspect almost every case.
My Poly also beats the hell out of a casing. So does my Mini-14 come to think of it.
Some of the denting is due to the extraction, some due to the action and (especially the neck) due to flying in the air and landing on hard concrete.
My M14 seems particularly hard on the casing head. So much so that (the chewing by the extractor) it starts to affect the gauging measurements with respect to bolt/casing headspace and the like. I did see a casing tool in M1 magazine (garand match shooting reloads) wherein they were able to (file??) the head to get it within spec again.
I could not be bothered, as I reload commercial brass and after about three or four reloads, I toss the case due to the battering and the stretching. It is very likely that I could get more life out of my brass, but for me Win. brass and cartridges are cheap and my reloads/rifle shoots very accurately and splendidly.
So I look at it as why spoil a good thing...right?
