Dents in old shotgun barrels

The hydraulic dent raiser is in $500 range and looks like an efficient tool. I use two pieces of dowling cut on a sharp angle. I put the doweling in from each end of the barrel and line them so they meet at the dent. You then tap them together to create outward pressure and peen the metal with a brass/teflon hammer. This is a patience pays process. Do not rush it and you can get rid of the dent. If things look dicey and you are worried the barrel is compromised, it is gunsmith time.

Minor dents are easy to raise. I use an expandable brass plug, and a smooth faced hammer - not unlike the method described by Bland.
Obviously, the size of the dent makes a difference.

When someone slams a old ford door on a double barrel English, dint remover don't cut it, made a mess of the truck door as well, barrels where toast, and of course pinched at about 1/2 way down.
New ford truck, the barrels may have survived, LOL

Just my 2 cents for what its worth ..those " hydraulic " dent removers need to be used with caution and understanding that they can turn your dent into a bulge in two shakes of a lambs tail ,always go slow with any dent removal and they don't all come out 100%
