Dents in the feed ramp.

Since I've never owned a pistol to this point, I'm not entirely sure what the score is here. Should I be concerned about a couple of little dents in the feed ramp? I can't remember if they were there when I first stripped and cleaned it or if they appeared after the first range trip.

I think there are precisely two (possibly just one), and they're little dimply buggers (shallow, but noticeable) sitting at around the centre. If anyone wants I can strip and take photos, but if it's a common thing then maybe I can get an "all clear" right off the bat. :)

How about telling us a bit more? Like what type of pistol it is. New/ used? How many rounds through it? Little things like that.

Pictures would be a definite help, they save immense guesswork and misunderstanding.

If it's at the bottom of the ramp it's likely from the barrel/slide hiting the locking block/frame during recoil as action locks up.

It could also be a factory defect or a a scratch caused by a malfuction/jam.

Steyr M9A1, brand new (until I fired it). Just some info on the photo, it doesn't look nearly that bad when you're just taking a look at it with the naked eye. I just happen to have an amazing camera. ;) So you can clearly see the indentations in the centre of the feed ramp (discolouration is just due to lighting and whatnot).

Quite sure. I just double-checked, and they're metallic in nature, and at a different angle they "disappear" as the light reflects from them the same way as the rest of the ramp.

Well, in that case it's probably a manufacturing defect, as I can't imagine ammunition dinging a steel feed ramp in such a manner (and after only one range trip). Whether or not this can be corrected depends on how deep the dings are if the are not too deep, the ramp can be re-polished.

I don't imagine they'd cause any issues until the repolishing (if my trigger finger gets itchy before I get it done), eh? And yeah, they're very shallow - you can't even tell that they're indented under uniform lighting.

Good to know it's not something going progressively wrong, though. :) That was my main concern. Thanks for the input!

If the gun feeds fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
