Depreciation

This thread brings back an interesting memory.
I was maybe just hitting 10 or 11 and dad's buddy had a Brno 21H in 8x57 dad was
interested in buying for me.
On one visit, this item came up and I remember them discussing price over a few drinks.
Dad was set on $110 and his buddy came up with $115.
They split the change, had another drink and shook hands.
That pretty gal is still here with me.
Most know what these fetch now a days.

She didn't quite look like this when I got her, but she makes me smile.

When you were 10 or 11? That was the time when the Dead Sea was merely sick.

They were about $150 new in 1950, and when you adjust for inflation that equals $1508.40 in today's money.

There's more than one way to view this topic ..

Last month I sold a slightly used Remy M700 walnut/SS, with a custom barrel, in 7mm-08 .. on EE .. for $950. - It lasted for 20min.
The guy who bought it put a synthetic stock on it and re-advertised it .. on EE .. 3 days later .. for $1900. - It lasted for 2 weeks.
So who's more stupid ... me, who obviously sold it for too little? .. or the new owner, who I'm sure paid way too much?

And by the way, the guy that bought my Remy was also selling a Kimber .. for $300 MORE than than P&C's and Epp's retail price! And it too sold.

On the other hand, I bought a brand-new 'made-in-USA' (FN) Win M70 Fwt walnut/SS in .308 ..
As you know, these are no longer available - in fact, the sales rep at Wholesale Spurts head office said that mine was the last one available in Canada.
That was 2 years ago. And I still own her .. she is still BNIB, with the Win sticker still on the barrel.
A few of my fellow CGN'ers have expressed an interest in buying it from me .. but I have hesitated.
Although I really do not need another .308 .. she sure is pretty. WAY too pretty to sell at a discount. (if at all).

Maybe there is nothing logical about this process?

Ooooooooooooooooooo! There's gonna be a fight...:p
Nice rifle. I picked one up too.

I did an analysis of how much, on average, I lost when I sold my last 21 rifles and shotguns... it came out to 31%! Considering most of them were unused or lightly used, that is a steep loss. Moral of the story, keep what you have and don't buy things you don't need, no matter how premium they are.

Wow. I made $300 profit when I sold my SAN prior to the reclassification (2 weeks prior). Then I made $500 on the 1895CB that I sold a couple of months ago. At this rate I won't have any guns left after all the profiteering!
