depriming live primers

'drake,

Why don't you just screw the decapping pin in your sizing dies up a bit so it doesn't contact the primers and full length resize the brass?

It's a win/win situation. You get to use the brass and the primers, too.

You don't want oil, WD40 or any crap like that in your cases. If it kills primers, which it does, you have to thoroughly wash them before you reload them else you run the risk of it getting in the new primers and killing them. Just run them through your FL sizing die or a universal decap die and knock them out.

I'm not one of the "IT'S DANGEROUS" guys.

I've done a few hundred without incident. Just deprime like you would a dead primer, just more slowly and steadily. I re-used every primer and they all went bang.

Don't mess with oil and don't waste good primers - please.

Holeeee!!! I'm surprised this thread hasn't brought out the "you'll blow the whole house up for sure" crowd!:rolleyes: As above, either use the primers as is, or push them out with a decapper die. Common sense will tell most of us to not have our nose shoved right in line of fire anyway. :p:p

I have been pushing out unfired primers for years and without incident. For the life of me why you don't use the existing primers escapes me but do as you wish. I sure wouldn't be putting any oil in the cases to deactivate them. You likely will end up with a few pounds of reclycle brass. Oil residue and gun powder does not lead to consistent results.

Take Care

Hey fetchingdrake,

Just to clarify other poster's concerns about keeping your face away, you should also keep your face away while priming.;) There is always a chance, IMHO it is remote.

The futility of answering these threads! The experienced hand loaders have stated to use them with the new loads, by simply resizing the brass, or just push out the live primers.
But, the gentleman says thanks for the advice, he will soak them in soapy water and dispose of them!

LOL well, you can lead a horse to water... LOL

Why deprime them any way? For peace of mind use them and avoid the hassle/time/danger of destroying 50 bucks worth of primers!

Agree. Why go through all that work and also destroy perfectly good primers?
If nothing else will make you happy, I can tell you that I have deprimed many live ones in the past, with no problem. Water can not reliably kill a primer...I had hundreds of my reloads that were in a flood. Empty primed cases full of yellow-green colored water (some of the lead styphenate disolved) would still still fire. Half had a strong bang, quarter had a weak bang, quarter wouldn't fire.

I would not recomend trying to punch them out and reuse them... its not worth the 32 dollars... I nearly blew my fingers off trying to save a buck doing the exact same thing.

The anvil some how moved causing the primer to go off when reinserting it into a new case...

Other thing is if you move them around to much the little bit of explosive chemcial sometimes fallout and you get a bunch of duds.

I would just say load em up with powder and shoot them its the safest way to do it.
