I just sized a .303 British case on my full length sizing Lee die and I guess I didn't put enough lube in the case neck and it pulled the decapping rod right out of the die. I had to cut the case off the rod (it was on tight).

How far should I seat the decapping rod back into the die? It effects something in the sizing process, correct? Should it be able to swivel around like in my neck sizing die?

Thanks :D

How far in did you put the decapping pin before tightening it down?

Raise your shellholder up to the die and set the pin so its just inside the shellholder, enough to pop out the primer. Then tighten it down. When you go to deprime a case, the pin may come up slightly out of the die if you have it in too far, but it should remain in that position.

Same here, with .303 brit. Followed Lee instructions, they mentioned the top of the pin should be flush with the tightening nut; didn't work. Now it's about 3/16th above and all's fine.

when this happened to me, i used a mallet type bullet puller to remove the decapping rod. lot easier than cutting stuff.

The odd time I've had my Lee FL dies apart for cleaning, I've been amazed by how tight you have to torque those suckers to keep the pin from moving!

is the decapper in a full length die fully straight, or does it have a curve to it? mine go stuck, pulled it out and now it has a rather noticeable bend to it

so thats no good?? if i was to try and straighten it ,can that be off at all and the case realigns it or will it give a miss shaped casing?

get a new pin. If you get it stuck again don't cut the case, just remove the die from the press, lube the inside of the case. Now run the shell up through the press and lock a pair of visegrips on the stem. now draw the case down with the press it should pull the expander ball out of the case. Then next time don't forget to lube the cases inside and out. i like Hornady one shot spray lube.
