Derya DYBA 9mm bolt action range report

If it's anything like the rusty one that came with the TM-22, mine was off specs from the nut and I had to use my AR tool. Then again, the rifle had to go straight to warranty, so more than one bit might be off on it out of the box.
I'll find out when I get the 9mm bolt action if you're missing anything worth a mention from not getting the key in the box.

I took the rifle to work today. First off, I enjoy how handy it is. The short barrel makes it a pleasure to move in and out of a vehicle. Second, while I haven't got any optic on it I did put five rounds into a small, ragged hole at 20m with the irons. It was slightly right which is disappointing because my sight it already slightly canted left but they are certainly usable.
I was using my handloads which are really terrible out of my Homesteader, something like 6-8" at 50m. So bad I have never bothered to get a proper measurment. I tried some gophers at 70-120m or so. Didn't hit any but I sure scared the hell out of them...
This thing will get an optic of some kind soon. I am sure it will make a massive difference. Lastly, it is a ton of fun to shoot. Much more satisfying than anything rimfire.

I'll have to check if my AR wrench fits the Derya barrel nut. I wouldn't need the cheap looking one supplied by Derya then.
Also,to those of you that have removed the barrel, there is no pin or notch or anything to index the barrel to the receiver?
The mag release is one of my least favorite things about it. I don't need a cool-guy tactical setup on a bolt action and getting away from all the muscle memory built in from my other PCCs frustrates me a bit. First world problems, maybe.
Yeah the mag release is odd for sure. Several design features leave me wondering why. Definitely could have been made a lot slimmer, trimmer and simpler. Oh well, until other options come along it will have to do.
One thing they should have done with the current design is make a mag well with adapters available and then uppers in different calibers. Would be kind of cool if you could swap on a 45acp upper and change out the mag well.

Well I took mine to the range today. Put 60 rounds through it and it was pretty fun. We tried 4 different types of ammo in it and accuracy was not great with any of them. We had 3 failures to feed, 2 with the supplied mags and one with a single stack 10 round Glock mag. The rest of the ags seemed to feed flawlessly.
Accuracy was around 6" at 25yds with 3 of the loads but it grouped around 4" with some 147gr lead round nose handloads of mine. I have a Leupold VX1 3-9x40 on it right now but it will be replaced with something smaller and more compact in the future.

4 -6 inches rested (I assume) with a scope at 25 yards is what many regular but casual target shooters get offhand with 9mm service pistols.
I'd be hoping for better then that from a supported bolt action rifle... hopefully it improves going forward!

My group at 20m with the irons would be something like 0.5" center to center. That is one five shot group but still. I am thinking ammo or bullet selection could be critical. I wasn't going to put an optic with magnification on but I may just to do some testing.
Yes off sand bags. Not great and I was hoping for better. My Glock 17 and 48 can do that offhand.
I'll keep trying different loads and see what happens. At any rate it's still fun to shoot.

The feed issues are still present. But seem to be going away as time goes on. Tried a few more brands of ammo. It is not a snipe. not that I had expectations of it being. But I’ve seen far too many comments of people expecting it.
We shoot it to 100 yards and managed a fist size 5 shot group. And for what it is. I’m impressed with that.

Have 9mil expectations and you won’t be disappointed !
Thanks for the reviews. I think some people have unrealistic expectations for this rifle. I like the idea of an inexpensive plinker for a relatively inexpensive cartridge. I already have enough .22LR rifles and like the idea of a short barreled 9mm rifle.
Finally got mine and took it apart to give it a proper cleaning. I didn't take the barrel off, but an AR wrench will not do, the supplied wrench will need to be kept for future maintenance.
I was sure my front sights were off, but it looks like everything was straight regarding those.
On the other hand: Anyone else's front grip at a significant cant? The lug on the underside of the barrel is not lined up vertically with the front sight post on mine. Mounting the handle pushes it far to the right at the front.
Not dealing with the magwell until I get the above addressed. I would need to be pretty drunk to not notice it, but then, I don't mix pews with brews.
It's built solid at first glance, but as a $700 plinker, I think I should have waited for a Gen 2 to come out that fixed all of the issues this thing has. Not my best impulse buy if QC is such a dice roll.
