Hey guys~quick question.. A buddy of mine got one of these recently and has yet to shoot it. It's his first semi-auto shotgun, and I know for a fact that his idea of gun cleaning (new or otherwise) falls short of what most guys on this site probably consider the bare minimum. He's planning on shooting it this coming weekend when we see each other, and assures me he's cleaned it up. My hunch is, he's swabbed the barrel...little else.

Knowing nothing about these guns, is there anything I should tell him he really SHOULD do from a safety/performance POV?

Thanks for taking a few moments to reply.

Some guys say that you should completely disassemble and remove the packing oil, then reassemble with some light oil. I don't have much experience with semi shotguns, so I can't offer anything more.

I’d make sure you got a light coat of oil on your bolt don’t need to take it apart, apart from that having mine take off the forend and wipe all the packing oil off the gas piston right by the gas port if you don’t it will be hard carbon when he gets home. Other that that run heavy loads about 100rds before lighter loads.

Strip the shotgun completely and do not over oil it during the break in. Not saying run it dry, but apply oil to the contact areas and let the metals work themselves in . Just don't drown the thing in oil. I added a bit more each time I cleaned my Typhoon and now after 3 flats it seems to be running smooth as silk. Issues will come up I'm sure, but check the problem and carry on with the break in. I did mine with Challenger 1 1/8oz HC, S&B sport slugs and S&B buckshot. They will run once settled in.
