Hey there was just wondering if anyone here has used the Desantis holster for competition and if it slowed you down at all? Looking to take the black badge in the next year or so and trying to find a good holster for my Glock 17. Any other recommendations?

Looks like that holster is going to ride a little high and canted back more than you'd want, plus that redi-lock button to press - which will slow you down some; but it's perfectly legal.

The most prevalent kydex style holster in IPSC is a Dropped and Offset Bladetech OWB. You don't need level 2 retention for IPSC.

...or does IPSC call 3-gun, Grand Tournaments now. I can never keep up.

For the OP...

If you intend to use it just for IPSC pistol, I think there are better choices.
If you intend to also use it for IPSC - 3 gun (where you don't transition multiple firearms in the same stage) again...there are better choices.
If you intend to use it for any of the multi-gun type matches, where you do transition from one firearm to another...the extra retention would make this a pretty good choice.

Im thinking of IPSC pistol and or possibly IDPA

If you are including IDPA then go with a regular belt holster and Bladetech is one of the best sources. The dropped and offset holster is not allowed in IDPA. Frankly my draw times are no different using my dropped and offset in IPSC or my regular belt holster for IDPA other than drawing from a cover garment adds about .22 of a second on average to my draw times and that isn't due to the holster but tested using a belt holster with and without a cover garment. A regular belt holster meeting IDPA rules will work in both sports.

Take Care
