Ive always wanted one of these, think about mabye trading a couple guns for one but was wondering are they worth it ? And what would a used one in .50 AE go for havent seen many for sale on here in .50

Also is there anybody in the nanaimo area willing to let me try a few rounds through their eagle. Ill by the ammo too!

Cheers, McLean

P.s. The other calibers dont intrest me, i dont see the point in owning one if it isnt in .50 :D

Is it worth it? Probably not, from a value perspective. It's not the most powerful round, in a finnicky gun, which is so large it dampens a lot of the recoil anyways. The ammo is damn expensive and near impossible to find, even for the reloader. At least if you get the S&W 500, you can cast bullets, the DE requires jacketted. And the 357 Magnum and 44magnum version, at least have fairly decent selection of jacketted bullets available.

If knowing all of that, you still want it, then for you, if you have the coin, then yes, it is worth it. Just don't go in blind, know what you're getting into. They do look like a blast, and guns don't come any bling-ier, this side of Saddam's Gold AK's anyway.

They are a lot of fun IMO. That said I sold mine after only a couple outings. Ammo and components can be a real PITA to find. If I bought another .50 I'd buy a .44 kit as well. Use the .44 for practice and the .50 for s**ts and giggles.

I hate desert eagles.

expensive to buy, expensive to shoot, attrociously ugly. I'd try shooting one if i had a chance, but certainly not worth owning if you ask me.

I love mine. It's so much fun to shoot. I reload for it and I made sure to put in the maximum amount of H110 powder so I get a HUGE fireball out the big hole in the end. Every time I bring a new shooter out to the range I make sure to bring it. I start 'em all off with a .22 then 9mm, 10mm etc. Then at the end I bring out the DE .50AE and show them a comparison of the ammo side by side. Their eyes bulge out and they're practically jumping up and down dying to shoot it. Once they do the grin is impossible to remove for hours. They'll remember that range trip for the rest of their lives. Especially when they see the DE in the movies. :)

Here's me and some friends shooting mine.

I guess you had a gun that doesn't follow the laws of physics.

Max load for .50AE 32.6 grns H110/296 behind a 300grn jacketed bullet.
Max load for .44 mag 22.5 grn H110/296 behind 300 grn jacketed bullet.

The .44 runs nearly 400fps behind the .50 as well. More blast, more recoil with .50.

ok thanks for all the input guys, I dont have the money so I would have to trade a bunch of guns for that one :p not sure mabye there is someone out there who would be willing.

Its not the recoil and all that or the price of the ammo, if i was concerned with that I wouldnt own a .44 mag. Its just owning one period and saying yeah its a .50 cal. always wanted one. Its funny when I tell people I have a few .50 cal muzzleloaders they are blown away even though its a whole 'nother ball game haha.

and the .50 for s**ts and giggles.

If you really want s**ts and giggles, then go for a 500 S&W !!! :D The 50AE is a pussycat in comparison.

The 500 S&W for a 325gr 44.5gr Lil'gun gets 2002 fps!! (or 45.3gr H110/296 for 1950 fps)

My favourite colour DE is Titanium Carbon Nitride (not Titanium Nitride). It is a much deeper gold/brown

To me the coolest thing about shooting a DE in 50 is the amount of torque that round generates - the recoil is manageable but I distinctly remember the twisting force that the 50 creates. 44 Mag in a DE is a hoot, it's tons of fun, but the absolute winner for me was the 357 DE, virtually no recoil with max loaded 158 grain hollowpoints - imagine a 22 rimfire that positively vaporizes milk jugs at 25 yards.

My 44mag DE is a pussy cat to fire "feels like a .45cal" I have only shot 50rds sofar with S&B which is not to reliable in the DE, but it is a tack driver!

I have to find the right load for the gun, so it will work properly "so stay away from S&B for DE :(

Agreed and when you limp wrist, the DE corrects you by hit you in the face with a spent casing :D
