Hey guys

I own a 44 desert eagle XiX and i ve been thinking about getting a .357 barrel to shoot less expensive big booms :)

Problems is everytime i want to shoot another caliber between (357 and 44) you have to change bolt, barrel magazine.

I would like to buy another barrel and now i would need a slide for a quick change caliber.

Is this even possible to buy a slide somewhere?

I know it would be faster and more simple if i would switch to .50ae but $$$$$$$$$$$$........

I haven't seen a separate slide for sale but I'm sure you can special order. Can't see it being that cheap though. Considering barrels are 6-700, probably just cheaper to buy a used 357.

Frankly though, while it may not be as easy as going between 50 and 44, it is not too hard to change the bolt. Nothing required other than the included 5-1 tool.

How much shooting do you do? Another way of looking at it. If you spent a $1K on the full conversion, you'd have to shoot 2000 rounds of 357 to break even, assuming 357 is 0.50/round and half the cost of 44.

I got to admit you made some good math there.

I dont really care about the cost of the conversion. i just like this gun too much and i would like to use it more. maybe thats why im looking for a way to shoot it more.

Forgot to mention im reloading for 357 and 44.

got rid of my coonan 1911.

Might just be better to buy a 357 barrel and bolt.
 
I'm a bit confused you say your reloading for both 44 and 357? How is 10 grains of powder and a slightly more expensive projectile going too amount too any real savings on 44 vs 357?
I load for both and never thought much of the few cents on different calibers?
 
you are right, no real savings there.

I just got rid of 4 pistols because i dont shoot them enough. Wanted to keep only two pistols, one 9mm and the eagle.

maybe im just looking to shoot the eagle in 357 to see how it feels in this gun. im also trying to own less guns(only those that i would never get rid of) and more conversion kits.

but yeah thats right no real savings.
 
You are better off getting a whole gun then a whole upper for how much it’s going to end up costing. It’s not hard swapping out the bolt and barrel but you should change the springs also if you want it to function properly. My advice find a used 357 keep the upper and sell off the frame and get some money back.
