Desert Eagle or glock for newbie

I can't stand to look at glocks. If you don't want the DE, which would probably be a total riot and relatively affordable to shoot in .357... I would suggest a sig sauer P226!
 
Why no 1911?
I would not buy a D Eagle for what people ask for them. The last time I used one I 44mag the dan firing pin flew out the back of the slide. The D Eagle is made for hunting. Being that we can't hunt with handguns it's a bit of an odd ball. Loads of fun to shoot but very expensive to shoot.
I would choosy the Glock's tho. I have a 22C and it's lots of fun and not to expensive to shoot.
 
10 different nutters will give you 10 different answers.
Some like Glocks.
Some like Sigs.
Some like Norincos.
Some like Hi-Points (for some reason).


1-Hold one and see how it feels in the store or at a friend's house
2- Do a little reaserch online to see what the general feeling about the the gun is; albeit, there will always be naysayers that will poo-poo every single brand out there.
3- Buy and have fun.

It also helps if you don't buy some oddball caliber. 45 GAP and 357 sig are probably very nice calibers but they are not as common as the run of the mill 9mm, 40sw and .45.

I learned the hard way, but learned nonetheless. So now I only have two pistol calibers 9mm and 38 special.

A Glock in 9mm is a thing of beauty.
Glocks in other calibers, not so much.
 
Lead 300 grain bullet's that have so little gun powder to reduced the recoil to the point were it just has enough power to cycle the action. Factory loads never do this.
But hell if you don't like the guy who is going to shoot your 50 Cal hand cannon why not give hime some 450 grain Flame thrower round's that will probaly end up getting you a law suite cuz he will need facil re-constructive surgery.
But like everything on this board "Glock's are the best thing ever" lol!!!
Check the EE and see how many you find for sale. Not everyone like the glock's and also not everyone like's hand cannon's. Take my girlfriend for example she hates the heavy recoil from the 50 but also hates the wrist snap she get's from the glock. So what happen's? I end up buying here a Baby Eagle & she shoots x ring little squirel target's @ 25 meter's.
All in All take a trip to DVC, Wild Wild West or maybe CFRAM and shoot there rental's first before settling on the 1 that you like.
Because all this computer comando bs talk will just give you a headache and most likey money not well spent.

Well, I do have some months where it only sees around 300. I have had it for a year and I'm just coming up on 3500 rounds through it, so 500 is maybe a little high most of the time. 300 is probably more accurate, I am just shooting it more these days.

Not that glock is a bad choice (dessert eagle definately is) but I suggest reading a lot more of this site and then jumping on you tube to watch some videos of your choices. Then if you can you should try to handle them. If those are the two (polar opposite) firearms that you have come up with in your search, then I have to agree that your research is probably exclusively from tv/movies and age dependant maybe rap music?

Look into sigs, cz, berettas...you still may go with a glock, but it will at least be a more informed choice.
 
Find a range that rents and try out as many as you can. I was looking a buying a Glock but stopped in at wild west in Edmonton on vacation and test drove a Glock, Beretta, CZ 75, and 1911 all in 9mm. I changed my mind as I didn't like the feel of the Glock at all, I liked the feel of the 1911 the best and the CZ 2nd best. Not the result I had expected. Shooting them all back to back is the best way to decide what works for you. What fits one person well won't work for the next so if you can try a few you'll save yourself the grief of having to sell the wrong one off later. You may want to try out some revolvers as well, I find I shoot way better with my Vaqeros than any of my other guns.

Ok, well it isn't much different from the 1300 rounds a MONTH I currently burn up of .40

Let's not talk about shotshell either.
 
If I got a DE, it's be the latest generation (picatinny model) in a "silver" looking finish of some kind and chambered for .44 Magnum (the "black" looks cheap and the gold is too gaudy IMO).

If I got a Glock, it'd be the Glock 29 with a threaded Lone Wolf barrel.

The Glock is going to be much less expensive if that's a factor.

:agree: i was told i was allowed one handgun ( now since repealed :p) and i chose the CZ7dB as mine after trying Sig, glock, beretta, S&W and a multitude of others and you really cant go wrong with it.
 
As a newbie, I've only shot 2 handguns... a DE and a 9mm Beretta.

The DE has all the giggle-factor in the world, and if money's not much of an object, why not splurge?
I'm not that well off, so I'm likely going for something more reasonable in the .40S&W range (glock 22 or Norc NP58) - but those are because I want recoil, but still want the ability to line up another shot within the minute than follows the first.

I will, hopefully, get a big giant stupid hand-cannon of a gun in the future... but dropping $2500 on something that makes me go "teehee" once a month, at most... not really worth it at this point.

I just spent the money and got two, a .44 and a .50. They arrived today, and I am really eager to teehee away!


I have about 5 other handguns, so it was time to upgrade from gun to cannon.
