Desert Eagle

I just ordered a DE44, Mk XIX what is the general opinion of these? Seems most of you guys like them, needs jacketed factory ammo to run properly?

Plated is preferred. Jacketed is fine as long as the base is not exposed. The Desert Eagle is a DI pistol so you want to prevend the gas channel from getting clogged with fouling. I got a DE44 last summer and it's a really fun toy.

Jacketed is the number 1 choice, Plated is a distant 2nd and Hard Cast Lead a NO NO

The reason for plated being second is the heavy crimp required for hot loads can sometimes cause separation of the plated exterior from the lead interior.

Your mileage may vary but a jacketed bullet that encloses the base in the best way to go IMHO

I had very good results with CAM PRO plated bullets even though I am not a fan of their product. Did not notice any jacket separation, all good clean hits on the target. I use Lee dies.

Can anyone point me to appropriate jacketed ammo? Can't seem to find much out there... I usually buy my ammo from SFRC and CanadaAmmo but their picking is slim in 44mag.

There is a listing on the Magnum Research website of appropriate ammo. They usually keep it pretty up to date.

Reloading helps out a lot when you own one of these beasties.
