After trying a few friends different 338's, I decided on the TRG 42. I liked the fact that they offer a complete package from the factory that works very well (brake, bipod, tactical scope mount with built in MOA, mirage strap, etc) and the finish matches on all the parts. It is not as heavy as other manufacturers, so for the long range hunting I use if for it's a bonus. The fact that it is not a custom built for me rifle was also a factor as good resale value is a plus, I have had trouble selling custom built guns in the past. Recoil is not harsh at all, less than my 308 hunting rifle.

I can't speak for any other .338s but I have owned a TRG 42 and it was a rediculously accurate rifle(regularly shot under an inch at 300m). The fit and finish is second to none and the resale value is much higher than selling a custom. Short of a PGW, I wouldn't even look at any other rifle in that calibre, the TRG 42 is your best bang for the buck.

My friends when you cannot decide have one of each. They are all great rifles if you have 3 of them I don't think that you will have to worry about shooting out the barrel. As for being practical forget it I can shoot a 22 all day it just ain't the same as shooting the big boys

Can someone explain this for me. I am not aware that the TRG has an provisions for caliber conversion save for the barrel being replaced by the gunsmith. In this case you would likely need a smaller bolt face as well. Are you confusing this with the fact that the TRG 42 is available in 300 Win as well as 338 Lapua??

the TRG doesn't offer conversion kits, you buy it in the calibre you want.
I love the fit and feel of my TRG and wouldn't hesitate to buy a 42 or another 22 for that matter. But I also love the PGW gun, mostly because it's made by a salad tosser (hah, ####er!), and because they are damn ###xy, accurate, well built guns. I've shot the DSA and liked it, but have yet to see this American copy in person. So of the two I'd go with the TRG42, with a Near Alpha Mount.

I just had dinner with the owner of DTA at a really tacky chinese food joint in downtown Amman Jordan...
I also saw a....um....soldier today try to hold his DTA 338 like it was an RPG and try to figure out how it worked. He then proceeded to work the bolt and ask what it was for. Based on the obviously over complex design I would suggest the TRG...Nick knows i'm kidding lol...

DTA SRS Owner Opinion
Personally I chose the DTA SRS in 300WM with a 308 conversion and have ordered the 243 kit.
IMO I believe it to be superior in it's design,build and application.
Accuracy is far better than the 1/2 MOA claimed when tuned with handloads and achieves 1/2 moa with factory ammo.
The trigger is excellent and adjustable to requirements.
The magazines although appearing somewhat frail,work exceedingly well and allow a great deal of cartridge OAL as they ride on the shoulder of the case preventing recoil bullet compression.
Fit and finish is superb.Caliber and barrel swap out can be done in the field in under 2 minutes.
Scope mount is ROCK solid and repeatable .I recommend using their single piece scope mount .(30mm reduction inserts work well)
As a right handed shooter it took very little learning curve to fast cycle bolt for double taps on target.
These fellows have done their homework to produce an accurate compact and well balanced shooting system that is easily expanded on.
FWIW I recommend this system.

DSR1 is quite a heavy duty rifles, had a change to play with it at shooting edge, Not sure If I get one those, but the TRG and PGW is definitely a winner, Love the Fluting on PGW. What a Winner!
Maybe My next project would be Fluting a heavy barrel and chamber it for 300wm and threaded for the Sako 995 with Mcmillan A5 stock.
