Answer: To have a shorter overall weapon allowing for easier use in confined spaces

But a bolt action is a sniper/hunting weapon not a street sweeper/urban combater. Can you imagine lying prone with this thing, then having to move out of the way to cycle the bolt and chamber the next round?

Huh? I always move my head every time I chamber a round in my Rem 700, or else I get a mouth full of bolt.

And I find pistol grips more comfortable then the traditional stock configuration for any type of shooting.
