gen2 has better buttpad, built in monopod and the foreend is different. No machined in rails at 9,6 and 3. Just spaces to put rail sections.

I dont have a 338 converison but my rifle CAN fit 338 if i had the barrel/bolt and magazine.

G2 3, 6, 9 has custom dovetail plastic rails; kinda cheesy.

338 with factory brake. (only 300WM & 338LM has factory brake)
260Rem with Heathen brake

The SRS has 26" barrel vs 20" on TRG and CTR but SRS is overall shorter.

There was a gen 1 and gen 2 then the A1.
Gen 1 had an index pin for the barrel, gen 2 (which is the one I had) indexes on a cut-out which I'm not exactly sure how to describe but it was an improvement over the gen 1 since they supposedly had a few that the pin broke. I'm not 100% sure about the A1 other than what was already mentioned by bsand. I don't know if conversions are compatible from G2 to A1.
Fantastic rifles, I printed many 1/2 moa groups with mine.

I am considering a trade of my PGW LRT3 50bmg 24" with iron sights & 2mags, carry case, cleaning kit so wanted to know about the 26" gen 2 version of Desert tech 338lapua as I believe it'll do what I want but at a sort of cheaper price (I'll get into reloading) and the way it's set up is what I like. (Bullpup style). Thanks for any and all info , pics , etc.

burnaby any reason you switched to a Heathen brake?

338LM comes with factory brake as pictured, haven't even install it on the rifle yet.
260Rem did not come with brake, under bsand and many other's advice got the Heathen. Great brake, reduces the 260 recoil to 223 level, can easily spot own shot. User index, Insite staff was great to deal with.

Very accurate rifle, easy 1/2 MOA groups. Still trying to get use to bullpub and rear mono. Last weeks test 5 of 6 5-shot groups had 4 shots groups under .4MOA, 5th a flyer as I'm still pulling the shot figuring out how to load the rifle with mono (used to rear squeeze bag).

Hi,

I have a SRS A1 covert with 308 16'' barrel and the 338 lapua 18'' barrel. As mentioned, the 338 lapua barrel comes with its own brake. For the 308 barrel, I have the Heathen brake from Insite Arms and it works great. I'm able to get accuracy between 1/4 and 1/2 MOA at 200y with my reload for the 308 (Lapua scenar 167, varget 44,3, -0,005 from the rifling, lapua brass. 2600 fps). I'm still working on my load for the 338 lapua but I'm almost always around 1/2 MOA at 200y with my loads (Lapua scenar 300, retumbo 91, -0,005 from rifling, 2600 fps). I'm very happy with this rifle and I'm bringing it each time I go to the range. Here are some pictures:

Fashionably late!
Gen 2 and Gen 2 A1 use the same conversion kits and both have the monopod option.
Gen 2 has full machined aluminum rails, Gen 2 A1 has short plastic removable rails.
Gen 2 no adjustable cheek rest, Gen 2 A1 has adjustable cheek rest.
Gen 2 has a more pronounced safety vs lower profile safety selector on the Gen 2 A1.
Gen 2 has harder butt pad with shorter LOP, Gen 2 A1 softer butt pad with longer LOP.

I would not hesitate to buy a Gen 2 over a Gen 2 A1 if the price is right.
I much prefer the full aluminum rails over the plastic. More durable banging around in the cold for sure. Custom aluminum rails for the A1 are very pricey but worth it to me if you plan to hunt.
Most don't need and adjustable cheek rest on this platform but if required a sorbothane pad of the correct thickness will resolve the issue and be more comfortable. Some late Gen 2's were machined for the cheek rest and if so can easily be upgraded if necessary.
Neither safety is difficult to operate with gloves but the Gen 2 A1 is more difficult to operate with thick gloves or seal skin mitts but who shoots with thick gloves or seal skin mitts...mine are on the ground in -40. lol
Now the butt pad. I hate to say it but I prefer the old to the new. Perhaps I'd change my mind if I was shooting 338 but for 300WM and down I've not noticed a big difference in felt recoil thanks to the balance/weight of the chassis and a good muzzle break. What I have noticed is that the longer LOP and softer/stickier butt pad of the Gen 2 A1 can be a problem with a Snow Goose or similar bulky parka when trying to shoulder quickly. Gen 2's harder rubber with shorter LOP will slide into place where as with the Gen 2 A1 I have to press it out and pull it into the shoulder. With repetition I'll get better but it's not intuitive for me yet and could be a problem if a bear unexpectedly pops out from behind a piece of sea ice. That last comment was a joke because I never stop by sea ice without looking behind it first. lol

None of these differences would stop me from purchasing either as they are minor and in my case more personal preference. If you can get a Gen 2 for a good price then you won't be disappointed and will have some $ left over for reloading equipment or extra conversion kits.

Wonder if anyone has used theirs in temps below -30 & wonder how the plastic parts held up?

The "plastic" is only a skin and the grip, there is a solid frame under it that does all the work. The plastic just makes it pretty and more ergonomic.

You can change out the 18" barrel for a longer 26" correct?? I mean that it can be done at home & doesn't have to go to a gunsmith right?

I want a 338 lapua with the 26" barrel is what I'm looking for. But I saw in DT's site they carry a 18" barrelled 338 & was curious if it could be switched out.
