What twist rate ? I have the old 16” 1/8 twist. I think the newer might be 1/10.
But yeah can’t go wrong with varget and 175 TMK and SMK, easy 1/2” moa (or better) with very little load dev.
Actually even factory FGMM 175gr was getting me 5 shot 1/2 to 3/4 moa. Had no problem taking it to 1000 yards on a no-wind day. Another good one for short range is Fed Fusion, both the 150 and the 180 will do 1” or better at 100yards. It has ####ty long range ballistics but it’s terrific hunting ammo for the 100-300 yards stuff.
Anyhow, my pet load is 44.0 gr varget, 175 TMK, 2.880” coal. Lapua brass, Redding FL match bushing dies. Fed 210M primers. The TMKs like to be loaded 10-20 thou from the lands. Same as Berger VLDs. On the other hand, the older SMK and Lapua scenar are much more forgiving for seating depth but don’t have as long range good ballistics but they usually group better within 300 yards.

That's super helpful. Since this is an A1 not an A2 I think this is 1:8 (unless they updated the barrel prior the the A2)?
I'm kind of surprised they like the heavy pills but it makes sense with the twist rate. What kind of velocity were you getting at those TMKs? I'm considering getting insite to spin me up another barrel in a 6 or 6.5 but I do have a soft spot for the old 308...

2450 FPS measured on a MS3 for the 175 gr. Which will get you to 1000 yards at 3000’DA. In fact I found out the advertised g7 BC is quite conservative.
The 1/8 twist barrel that I have isn’t picky. 155 are fine as well but I prefer XBR powder for those. I tried to work out a practice/light coyote load with 125 TMKs and 135 SMKs and that’s where accuracy started to degrade to 1.25-1.5” but had no issues maintaining 1/2 moa with amax 155s, just prefer the heavier 175 for wind.
