Desperate for a solution...gun jamming

Grouse Man ...I was surprised how little crud was inside the magazine. I was hoping that would be the cause, but after cleaning, it still jammed. I will continue tweaking the tabs. Worrying about breaking them off is no longer a consideration, as other magazines are available.
a j cave ...Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately, it is not mine to sell. The owner wants it fixed, so I guess he must really like it. Personally, I would not give it to my son. The kid might think I stopped caring about him.;)
 
I've had that model since new and only put about 700 rounds through it. I didn't take the receiver apart to clean it in 20 years! It started jamming on me after about 500 or so rounds (about 5 years ago) that's when I relented and took it all apart. Lots of nooks and crannies crammed with lead and shards of brass! Give the whole thing a good cleaning and then wipe everything with a THIN coat of very light mineral oil or 3in1 electric motor oil. Too much oil in there will gum things up fast. Good luck!
 
Sorry, I meant how clean is the action, not the magazine. If the inside of the receiver or bolt return spring is really dirty it adds extra friction which may be difficult to overcome. And do the extractors move freely, or are they stuck/gummed up? If they don't move freely, they won't allow a cartridge rim to slide up when feeding.
 
Grouse Man... I realized that was what you meant after I posted. I should have mentioned that I did take the gun apart to clean it thoroughly when it was first brought to me.
handofzeus ...there was a fair amount of thick oil residue, so I cleaned it out with degreaser and put a little gun oil back in.
Wham-O ...thanks kindly for the pdf! I had already found the Numrich site and got their schematic for the gun. Had to buy it. Very underwhelmed...
Diablo7101...you'll never find those shells up here, don't know why. Stores up here bring in crap for ammo. You have to drive south for the good stuff.

And now for the good news...I got it working! I took a look at a friends semi auto, (not the same make or model) and noticed the clip tabs were nicely rounded. I took the M16 clip apart and put a long rectangular bar with a half round, ground on the end, up the clip and a placed the top of the clip in a round groove and tapped the punch lightly. It seemed to do the trick. I thought all the bending would alter something. I ran a box of Winchester Super X shells through it and not one misfire!
