Does anyone sell detachable magazines for sks? Is there such a thing to have a 20,30 round magzine clipped at 5 rounds? Sorry Im new to all this.

Yeah. I don't think anyone sells fives, but 30s are readily available. In order to use them you pop the trigger assy off, pull out the fixed mag that the rifle comes with and pop the trigger back on. The magazine now slots in at the front of the opening and clicks into the mag release by the trigger guard.

USA generally makes a good mag although the one my buddy just bought the locking tab was too long and sort of deformed so he had to file it down to make the magazine release properly.

If you buy them in the US you'd have to pin them yourself before you brought them north.

Just got my SKS and I want the same thing. I'm looking this weekend in Red Deer. If I find anything I'll let you know. If Powmia56 can say where to find these 30 rounders, that would be cool. I've emailed a few Yanks and they say they don't ship to Canada, probably because they don't need to pin them to 5 rounds. Let me know if you find a place.

Can't help you there. I'm a Yank.

So to get this straight, sorry I bought my first Russian SKS today, the buolt in hinged bottom mag can be removed and a detatchable one fits right in its place??

Not sure how well it work may be someone has experience with them can chime in:

man!!! it was painful watching the dude fumble the rifle and the mag.:D

make your life easier , follow these steps instead.

1. #### the bolt , bolt should stay open , do not remove bolt/carrier and top cover.
2. turn rifle upside down on the carpet or in a vise and remove the trigger group , make sure the safety is on and fingers away from the ejecting port.
3. pull out the orginal mag .
4. re-insert the trigger group, snap it in .
5. lastly , insert the detachable mag and release the bolt .

note: the mag could only be removed or inserted when bolt is in the rear position .

So much for quick mag changes! :D

Once you have the original fixed mag out mag changes are just as quick as any other. It is taking out the five rounder that requires removal of the trigger group. After that the SKS mag goes in much like an M-14 mag. Insert the front lip, rotate the magazine up and backwards until it clicks into the mag latch. Pull bolt back and release. Fire.

Super simple.

Thanks for that clarification. I thought that's how it was done, but when I saw the vid/instructions my mind went WTF?!?

I believe the original question is where to get this in Canada. Does anyone have an answer to this? I know there are people who have aquired one, just please let the rest of us in on it.
