Hi guys,

Am looking into buying 1" detachable rings for one of my hunting rifle but I never had or tried any and am a bit lost here... especially concerning their ability to keep the adjustment/zero when mounted/removed from the base.. could you guys advise me on what to buy and at the same time what NOT to buy.

I would like something that would easily detach without need of tools and that would kinda keep its zero each time. It will be for a take down rifle in .270win cal for which I am building a nice wood carry box for it once disasembled.

There should be some of you guys that use or used them so any info, comments is welcomed.

Thanks

weaver rings are the cheapest detachable. can be removed with a coin or back of a knife blade. luep makes nice lever detachable but a about four times the cost.

EAWs are very consistent but cost a little bit more.Don't need any tools to remove them.-Rainer

Ive used both the Warne's and the Leupold QRW... both are very consistant.

But, no matter which ones you use (except maybe the EAW's) don't expect to take them on and off every week and expect them to maintain zero after a few months. As a backup for open sights, they are fantastic.

EAW are nice and allow for lots of adjustment to get a stress free setup for your scope as well.. pricey though AP

A little bit more? EAW scope rings on EAW bases, which are the only base they fit, cost ten times what Weaver mounts cost!

They are great mounts, but quite a bit more than a little bit. :D

Not if you buy them from Austria.-Rainer

Thanks guys...please continu..:D

How about if I would ex: scope the rifle, take the scope off, put it back then shoot (and verify the dammage) again, with regular scope rings install with either allen screw or other kind... would it be close to zero again?

I know it's a little different of originally posted but..

Never thought of trying that because, I don't know about you but for me, once sighted and adjusted, I usually don't touch it no more  so ....

If it usually go back to zero or very close, it would be a lot easier when you want to disasemble or do a good clean scrub of the rifle without fear of completely deajust the scope. If the rings stays on the scope at all time and only taken off the base, ..???..what do you think?

I guess to work, it would needs good rings to start with......

That is the good thing about the EAW mounting system. They will go back to zero...certainly very, very close to it, if not absolutely.

On the other hand, so will Weavers. :)

How about ARMs rings?

ARMs rings are on the picatinnty standard which meand they are a bit wider across, and have a wider crossbar so you will probably have to open the groove on a Weaver base. they are also wider than most rings fore and aftThey are excellent for a return to zero.

I just got a set of Burris adapter bases to convert a Ruger M77 to Weaver type bases so I could get the capability to use ARMS rings. The adapter had to be machined and the grooves widened to accept the ARMS rings. I wanted this feature so I could piggyback a second Picatinny base on one of the rings (ARMS sells an adapter) for a red dot for short range work.

Anybody use the Talley ring? They look pretty nice...
