Devcon (steel) bedding a wood stock

i used marinetex epoxy to fill in the right hand bolt channel on the choate ultimate varmint stock i got because my savage is a lefty, after it had cured and i sanded it down, i pounded on it with a hard rubber mallett it did not come loose im considering using the marinetex to bed the stock since i can get it at canadian tire and it was not overly expensive any sugestions would be apreciated,

Marinetex

Marinetex is another good product to use. You can use whatever you have on hand or that's easily available in your area. I just happen to use the Devcon because I wanted something very solid and the place selling it was close by. The only real down side I can see is if you bed a very light rifle, the Devcon will add more weight to your gun by ounces.

Well if this don't tickle my fancy..... :D
Every time I go through one of these do it yourself
threads it just makes me want to try it.
Bit of a coward for this bedding job.
Great thread and well done.
Thanks.

awesome thread, may have to buy another firearm just so i can bed it! my mini-14 is curing as we type, done by aspiering gunsmith friend o mine

The most important aspect of bedding an action is to not induce stress into the receiver when the bolts are tightened up. The easiest way to mitigate this is to pillar bed the rifle at the same time you bed the action. The use of T-Bolts and your bottom metal give you the best opportunity for a stress free job.

This being said your job turned out very well!

We use a lot of this at work, lately though it has been Locktite's version of it but the best way to mix is to use a 3/4" or 1" spade drill bit. Grind the tip off it so it resembles a paddle and throw it in a drill press on a low speed. Let it spin and hold the can with the two parts, it makes a great mixer and only takes a minute.

I currently use Devcon,MarineTex and Loctite steel putty's.All work very well.
Am very impressed with the Loctite Steel and Aluminum putty.
Also use Kiwi shoe polish (nuetral)for release agent, apply and buff off two or three times.
Has never to release perfectly.
I also free float the barrel completely.

Wasn't sure how to post this but since it relates to bedding...

Crappie Tire now sells JB weld in 10 oz. packs. You know what the Rat Btards will do if they don't sell a few hundred a day. All of you who find the price of Devcon a bit hard to take go out and buy one it's $20.

I experimented with a few other products, you really need the longer cure time don't you.

Speaking of experiments, time to stuff some epoxy into some voids...

When a dental pick has reached it's useful life cycle the dentists in my area are required to dispose of them, usually at a cost. Last time I asked I was handed 30-40 picks so I have a long supply. As with anything else they do break. It also helps that my wife is a dental hygenist, clean teeth and clean guns!

Thanks for the tutorial notenough!! After reading it 3-4 times and taking a week to work my nerves up to do this, I successfully bedded my first rifle and couldn't be happier.

I got Devcon from Amazon for $50. I live very close to the US border so I pick it up to save on shipping. I have no idea what it would cost to ship up here.
