My father in law came across this Bren gun a couple of years ago. He's thinking of selling it, but not sure what the value is. I think he should keep it cause it's pretty damn cool.

It's had the locking threads chopped off the barrel, and the receiver was cut in half and has been rewelded. Everything else seems to be intact and working.

I saw a Mk 1 for $850 at the Wpg gun show a while back. It wasn't ####&click or as beautiful as your pic, but it didn't have any obvious dewatting scars either.

BREN Mk1

I think the BREN would probably be about $800 to $1200.
I am glad I am in 12-3 I wouldn't like putting that kind of money into something that doesn't work.

Anyone got a Pintle for a BREN Tripod?

That Bren is my work. The bipod is a mk2 type, but otherwise the gun looks OK as a mk1(M). It is a bit harder to get a Bren with the proper mk1 butt, as these were replaced in service with mk2 butts.
The anti-aircraft butt handle is available as a repro from IMA in the USA for around $50. If it's an origional handle, then it's worth more in the $200+ range.
I have never had a problem selling a Bren in that condition (without the handle) for $850; in fact I usually have a waiting list of people wanting them. I would suggest that if the butt handle is an origional, you sell it seperately.
That Bren looks like one I sold to a fellow in your area about 2 years back who was a member on this board (brengunner or something like that).
The only thing that Bren really needs is the shoulder strap on the butt plate, and I have just managed to secure a bunch of those. You would also have to weld on the stud to the top of the buttplate.

That would also have been one of mine, and it was a #### and click. It sold that day, and I thought it was every bit as nice as the one in the photo, plus it had the proper mk1 extendable bipod.

Thanks for the replies guys...

It's gone on to a new home now. I'm a little sad, but oh well. At least I got to play with it for a while.

It's Not an AA butt handle. the handle was used in the ground application. Being a pain in the arse, most were sent back to store or "lost" They did find a new use for them as carrying handle on the 2 inch mortar.

The one you sold brengunner was a DP marked MKII and I almost bought it too. Very nice gun. I think he ended up selling it and bought a POS Russian DP MG. I guess he will have to change his name now to ex brengunner. He wanted a bren and ended up getting a more rare one and sold it.

I stand corrected in that regard, but this gun is still my work.
I've had a few guys practically beg to buy one of these, and then I see it up for sale within the year. I suppose if they were shooters it might be different. Anyone who has fired real brens knows how unique they are to fire.

The only Brens I need for the collection is an Inglis MKIm and a 7.92. One day when I get some dough Rob expect another PM you do great work.
