Question – dewat Luger. Do these come up and if so how much? Want one for a WW2 display in my new home but won’t add it to the shopping list if it’s going to cost me a fortune. Doesn’t need to have German markings as I know what this would do to the price. Just a regular deactivated Luger handgun. This isn’t a looking for ad, that would belong in the EE of course. This is a looking for information post.

PS - search revealed no results here, found that surprising.

I don't think there are very many of them in existence on this side of the Pond; everybody here is waiting for the law to be changed back to something sane.

Far as German markings are concerned, that's exactly what you want. Bulgarians, Portuguese, Dutch, Finnish, Swiss.... all those are REALLY scarce. Luger was the official pistol of the Russian Empire, on paper, but only 3 exist. There are other examples almost as much fun, but you get the point.

Why bother wrecking a piece of history if all you want is a display? You can get a scary-accurate copy in an Airsoft, brand new, for a LOT less money.... and you can even shoot at flies with it.

I was going to say the same thing. You can get decent looking (ie very realistic) looking airsoft handguns if all you want to do is have a non-firing display.

Problem being Airsoft Lugers are somewhat scarce as well. Your easiest bet is trying to find a WE brand Airsoft Luger. It'll run you about $300-$500 though if Im not mistaken and if you can find one. Price will depend on the model of Luger and how hard it will be to get into Canada.

Just carve and whittle one out of a block of wood. Or get a toy model.
Why destroy a gun?

Thanks guys. I would never destroy a gun. Or buy an airsoft.
I thought (wishfully) that someone was going to chime in and say "Hey back in 1992 there were 6000 real German wartime Lugers that were deactivated by the RCMP and sold to movie producers to use on movie sets. Half of CGN has one in their closet..."

I guess they are pretty scarce. I'd only want one that someone else has already buggered up. I recall playing with one on Canada Day at a wartime re-enactors display at the Aviation Museum. Tickled my fancy.

I think making a realistic wood model would classify as a "replica" firearm and be a prohibited device.

Really it would.

Best bet would probably be to fins an old, beat up, rusty, worn out luger and dewatt it and have it re-blued. I'm sure someone has one that seen a few years in a flooded and humid basement.

Well,...I think the guy that registered a Black and Decker Glue Gun with the Registry has more brains than all the people combined that work there, Iggy and Wacky Jacky Included !

My interest in Lugers dates back to the fact that my father had a full size replica plastic model that he had built when he was a child. Probably dated from the late 50's to mid 60's somewhere. When he passed away (20 years ago), it was tossed out I guess. Too bad.

1970's 1:1 scale plastic model gun kit made by LS Japan. LS has since gone bankrupt.

Ha, cool. My father's was way older than that for sure. Wish I had it, probably would be a really rare collectable now.

lh, if you check out the banner advertiser, Tradex, they have non prohibited Swiss Mod 1906/29 pistols for sale (Lugers). They are not cheap but they are lovely. Accessories are also available, like spare mags. Holsters, are rare.

There is another site, that doesn't advertise but I will mention them anyway, because they don't have any non prohib P08 pistols left. They do have a wack of very nice P38s, almost as desirable but pricey. They had Finnish Mod 1923s, non matching FTRs, that the Finns converted to 9mm from 7.63 by Tikka. They used the same holster in many cases as the Lahti. That is a look alike, barely, but in as new matching numbers configuration and without the toggle. That company is Collector's Source. Their pricing, is usually at the top of the scale but on the other hand, their offerings are usually very decent.

I've got two de-wat Lugers. A 1918, all-matching DWM in NRA 95% condition bought by me back in 1971, and a byf42 Mauser, again all-matching except for the magazine, I bought in 1988.

I could not bear to be parted from either of them in the handgun ban here in yUK in 1997.

De-wat or de-act Luger prices are climbing through the ceiling here in yUK. Figure on upwards of Can$1500 for a good condition basic gun up to unbelievable amounts for something rare. Both mine were recently appraised at UK£1250 and 1000 respectively - BEFORE the recent hike. Holsters are going for between £200 and 500 right now - either of mine are valued at more than that here.

There are dewat P08's here. Looked at 1 at the Toronto Military Show last year. $1000 and it was WWI I believe. I also saw 1 for sale about 5 years back, WW II era for $600.
And there is one on the net now I think, a Canadian company too!
Good luck.
