Dewat FN L1A1

the BATF didn't like the safety sear to them it's a full auto sear .I'm not sure what was done to your Aussie L1 John for it to be allowed into the states unless we're talking 15+ years ago .some Aussie and Brit Fn's had a little washer like space filler welded into the spot the safety sear went .I also had to file one down back in the day so I could get one of my C1's out from police storage .

Parker Hale sold some L1A1s into the US in the 60s which had the sear slot welded over, they were found in court to be legal, but no more were allowed to be imported.

Lithgow manufactured a few hundred new receivers in the early-mid '80s specifically for the US market without the safety sear slot. They are EXTREMELY desirable in the US, as the ONLY legit inch pattern receivers....

Where was it? I was all though there and would have spotted an FN immediately...did it sell really early in the day? I was there at 8:10.

I saw it when he was showing it to Dennis (the guy that runs the show) but the fellow was pretty depressed after he got the bad new, and kept it under his table. Like I said, he was thinking it was worth around $800....

If he was going to sell it for $800, then he likely didn't pay $800 for it. At most, a dealer might have paid $600, and would most often try to go considerably less. So at worst, he just bought it too early. Even at the $600 or so number, I often see ex-army cadets with a bit of cash wanting some souvenir from their "army days".

I'm going to be buried with my C1A1...

I consider my dewats as a bit of a form of investment until the government hits those as well. Hopefully the majority of the FN C1 owners will think like you and keep these guns as rare as they are.

I still need a non- 8L gun for my collection. A little tougher to find, but I am patient.

which is odd, because I got my Australian L1A1 from Canada.;)

Yes, John, but that was a while back, I guess, and you don't live here, so you're not going to go on a shooting rampage anywhere and kill all the defenceless little "hello kitty" folk at the mall, right? One more exported rifle makes Kanuckia a safer place.

;)

Sadly, there are many of us that CARRIED these rifles for the Queen, who are not trusted to own them as civilians....

But I digress...

The only living thing I have ever shot was a ground squirrel that had been crippled by a dog. With a broken back it was not going to survive. I collect and target shoot, I don't hunt, but I also have no problem with those who do.
