OK~confession time. Whenever I clean the bore's of my rifles (mostly rimfire) I use products from this company with, what I believe, are excellent results. http://20-20.8m.com/patchworm.html In fact, I even use this for my .223 bolt gun and I HAVE a Dewey rod for it. Now, it never gets hot (use it for groundhog hunting) so copper fouling isn't ever an issue. So...I just took delivery of a new .204 R bolt gun and while it's intended use will be the same, I'm assuming the bore MIGHT require a more serious cleaning regiment....no? Other than first round of load testing in the next few weeks...the gun will see a shot about every 30-40 minutes when in regular use. Am I OK with this method of cleaning the bore, or, am I likely to require a rod/brush if the higher pressure/temps of the .204 means more copper deposits in the bore?

Lastly~if the consensus IS to get a rod/brush, it looks as though Deweys jump form .17 up to .22, so, I'm assuming the .17 and the .20 cal brush/jag?

Thanks for taking a moment to reply. They say the only dumb question is the one you don't ask...but this might sound like a "dumb" question anyway!

I was looking a while back at picking up a Dewey rod for cleaning a couple of my smaller calibers, but found out the they changed the thread sizes so you more less have to buy a rod for each caliber.

I was looking at the 17hmr and 223 though. I might be different for the 204

I haven't owned their .17 rod, so I can't check if the thread size for it would be the same on the .22. Now that you mention it though...I might check the .20 brush thread against it before I leave the shop.

I use a Dewey .17 rod with a .20 jag and brush for my 204 . The .22 jag and brush will not fit on a .17 rod

Dewey makes several rod options for the .20 cal.
Many use the .17 cal. rod and .20 cal. brushes, for the .20 cal. cleaning.
Both the .17 & .20 cal. rods are female ended and use a 5/40 thread due to the diameters of the rods, this requires using brushes with the correct threads.
Dewey recommends that folks use a .20 cal. rod for cleaning .22 rim fires due the thickness of the coatings and the sometimes tight bore diameters, this reduces the chance of cutting the coating on the rifling should a tight bore be found. CZ is noted for tight bores in the rim fire.
To do this a 17A adapter (male 5/40-female 8/32) can be used with this combo.
It will also work in a .22 cal. centre fire bore.
They also make a full line of SS rods, these rods are female ended and require male ended jags, which comes with the rod as.
Standard brushed us 8/32 thread.

Thanks Dan~I hadn't realized they made a .20, I was trusting my local dealer had a complete selection. Guess not. Would you suggest tracking down a .20, or, is there a reason NOT to use a .17 in my barrel?

Using your .17 in a .20 is fine, but in a .22 cal. you will notice a bit of flex in the rod as it is quite small in diameter. As Dennis said a good fitting bore guide will aid in this.
Check with the folks at Williams Arms they carry some Dewey products.
