DG fees for shipping powder

I have been shopping for powder lately. There seems to be a big difference in shipping. Some businesses don't charge any extra and some charge $40-60 DG fee on top of shipping. Using the same shipping company.

What gives. I'm starting to think this is a BS fee and a way to make a quick $.

Which suppliers don't charge this fee?

I will make a list.

DG fees are real, lol, but some retailers choose to bury the cost of those fees in a "free" shipping arrangement (minimum purchase required of course). Retailers that offer "free" shipping are pretty well-known at this point.

I guess it may depend on where you live. Londero and Sporteq will ship within Quebec and forgo this scam fee. Budget Shooter supply also has great shipping rates. But as silverfox as posted the solution is sharing the order and buying in bulk.

I usually buy from western metal. Free shipping on 300$+. No DG fees. Not the all-best prices, but close enough. 300$ is easy to get to if you buy primers+powder+bullets.

I used Bullseye for some powder they had on sale. No hidden fees. I wanted to order a bunch of stuff from tenda but once you add their dangerous goods fee which was $60, the savings are gone and better to shop elsewhere. Seems shady to me.

"Higginson Powders Inc.: Shipping Policy: We offer free freight on powder orders of 24lbs. or more, shipped to and picked up at,major Loomis Express depots. The base charges are covered in the free shipping. The extra $30.00 flat rate Haz-Mat fee is not covered as well as any additional surcharges applied to base freight charge, such as rural and residential delivery, ferry charges, additional handling and fuel. Also, the free shipping is applied to the propellant only, freight charges will be applied to additional items ordered and shipped with the propellant boxed separately, such as brass casings, bullets, primers, loading tools, etc."

Higginson might have good rifle powder prices (I wouldn't know because I don't load for rifle) but their pistol powder prices suck.

They've got the best rifle powder prices around, at least from what I've seen. They also have really good brass prices for certain calibers, the caliber I'm after is less than half the price of other places. Now to figure out if it's worth ordering powder from them if I'm only after a lb, probably not...

Henry at Budget Supply is my go to for reloading powders and primers.

Any DG fees for powder from Henry? I wish he offered local pick up, that would make it a no brainer...
