Concession holders were responsible for anti poaching teams, fire fighting team, camp staff ect. Now take Botswana for instance; who will be doing this there? The goverment? i don't think they have the man power to do what concession holdera were doing for 45 years and longer. Poaching will become Botswana's downfall...

oh yes, very true, prices is getting out of hand...2013 season on Leopard@ US14 000 for 14 days, bait included, 2015 @ US18 500-30 000 excludeing bait...perhaps because tags are getting less and 'sell and demand' exploded!

She turned out pretty nice. I have an as yet undeveloped idea for a takedown mechanism that allows the butt to quick detach, would nice for travel, but I won't get too far into it as I don't want to drive a wonderful thread further off its course. I will say this light, whip-handling little single probably provides the quickest accurate snap shot of anything I've ever played with. My single shot reload is needs some polish, but it could be possible to run one with reasonable speed. I held the spare cartridge in my supporting hand.

No matter what all the naysayers say- I'd smack the hell out of a buffalo with the OP's 450 if it was mine.

(truly meant as a funny post- not slighting your lovely .275 or anybody else's opinion or whatever)

I seriously like the lines of that little moose stick- are you going to checker it? What's it weigh- guessing 6.5lb?

Would you spend the time and money first to correct the issue of the safety button? Or just use it "as-is", as an essentially extractor-only rifle, and hope the buff doesn't reciprocate? :)

Not trying to stir the pot here...much :)...as I am an admirer and user of singles in general and the #1 in particular. I have only one of them left, a 26-inch .300H&H that will stay with me regardless of how much my collection dwindles. I love the way the gun just lays the empty case on top there, waiting for it to be picked up and pocketed. It encourages the development of stealth and stalking technique, since it combines the noisy "ping" of ejection (so hated by the early African hunters) with the necessity of doing all the work yourself...no lazy reliance on springs and mechanisms to remove the empty case from the vicinity of the chamber. Slow is smooth, and smooth is...well, here it's slow, but...:)
 
Bahh- he worries to much- I could fix that issue up in 30 seconds with a file or 10 with a dremel. 5 with my belt sander but that might affect resale.
No need for that fancy trop stuff from south of the medicine line.

Bag it, tag it, get that head up on the wall

Hey! I've got a Dremel, and a belt sander, and a bunch of other whirry, buzzy things in my workshop. Ardent, send me that cute little moose shooter...I have an idea on how to turn the buttstock into a quick-detach piece.

Or...did you want it be quick-replaceable as well? :)

I'll even checker it while I've got everything plugged in!

Happy to help, send me $2500 and a No.1 and I'll start cutting a blank tomorrow. ;) And again in all dull seriousness, a guy has proven it can even be done with a cheap spear, completely ignoring millenia of Africans that have done it that way, or at best sharpened poles sticking out of the ground along trails they flushed the buffalo down. I don't think many here would tell you it can't be done, as it surely can and perfectly more often than if we hunted buffalo every day of our lives for the average, practiced shot. Plenty of muzzleloader dangerous game has been done, and even bows of course. I don't think it rash to choose the "ultimate" weapon, as for most their buffalo hunt will be the pinnacle of their hunting experiences. It's all part of the game, the fun of choosing the ultimate gun, or the one you're happy to compromise to because you like it. While many choices are certainly sub-ultimate including bows and single shots, they'll all work, and I doubt anybody would argue otherwise. But best, my beloved singles surely aren't- good enough, absolutely!

Whatever compliments your hunt most I say, in your eyes. :cheers:

And I only chimed in Because so many people had said it absolutely was not an option and would not work- i felt that was a disservice to the original poster...and said so.

I'm not convinced you have any idea what you're talking about. Mugabe doesn't want to destroy all industry in Zimbabwe, he just wants to ensure that he gets his hands on as much cash as possible. The only money that goes into Zim is from hunting. This is precisely why hunters get very little hassle when going into and out of Zimbabwe - we bring in the only foreign capital they see all year. Mugabe isn't crazy, he's greedy and evil. But greedy evil people know what side their bread is buttered on.
 
I'm pretty convinced he's an expert in alot of things,
Buffalo hunting because he watched some Jim Shockey videos,
he's almost a fighter pilot because he watched top gun,
ready to "Go Fast!" on a nascar track because talladega nights was on lastnight,
and a virtually certified "international man of mystery" as soon as the Austin Powers marathon is finished this weekend....f:P:

Here is a picture of my new .450 NE 3 1/4"

Have some 500 grain TSX loaded up. Going to see if I can get them over 2400 fps on Thursday or Friday.
