Did I do something stupid to my new Glock?

I just got my very first gun... a Glock 17. When I picked it up I asked the salesman what I needed for a cleaning kit. He told me the gun came with one so I went home thinking I was set. This weekend I went over the Glock 17 manual in detail. When I got to the section on cleaning there were no instructions other than to say that the gun should be cleaned periodically and, in particular, before being used the first time. I field stripped it and just ran the dry plastic brush that Glock supplies through the barrel.
Today I was watching a Nutnfancy video on Glock cleaning and realized that not only do I need a whole pile of stuff not included with the gun, I may have damaged the barrel running the dry brush through it. Is it possible I have damaged my brand new gun?
 
hellz no! If i remember correctly, the glock came with a plastic bore brush. That will not wear down your godlike glock barrel.

Go shoot it...it doesnt even need to be cleaned...
 
Watching nutnfancy videos can cause brain-rot. I can't stand his nattering... but anyhoo.

I would recommend you pick up a decent cleaning kit, it will serve you well. Don't skimp with cheap patches.

Your Glock is just fine. If it can withstand a 124gr chunk of metal be forceably squeezed down its bore, a plastic brush aint gonna hurt much.
 
There was a little warning during the Nutn vid that said something along the lines of :
"never reverse a dry bore brush in the barrel". I wondered how a plastic brush could possibly cause damage but I thought I best be sure...

Anyway thanx for setting me straight guys.

Get a boresnake, a small can of G96 and some mil-spec lubricant. Aside from some microfibre rags and q-tips, that's all you essentially need.
 
He means not to stick the brush in half way, and then force it back out.

This is not even an issue with a nylon brush, and even with looser fitting copper brushes I really don't see the problem. If you have to put alot of force into reversing it with a tight brush I can see that, but relax and take a second.
 
I am not sure how nylon, copper or brass brushes are going to hurt steel barrels no matter how you use them. Just saying...

Clean your Glock after each range session and it will last you a lifetime. Don't clean your Glock after each range session and it will last you your lifetime.

I've cleaned dozens of glocks over 20 years and all you need is a brush, a rag, some oil and if your feeling really energetic some bore patches or a bore snake, and maybe some tooth picks for the odd nook and cranny. There are mall ninjas, and then there are desert ninjas, and nutnfancy plays in the dessert. I've put tens of thousands of rounds through my pistols and they look and function as if new out of the box.
 
The real reason you don't want to reverse a brush in the bore is that it is hard on the bristles, particularly with a tight-fitting bronze brush.

ever since i have gotten into the GunNutz community, i have not been able to stop watching his videos. This guy has helped me a ton in my understanding.

also, FPS Russian is fun tio watch...entertaining.

Nutfancy not so much, there is something about his voice or tone, i dont know what it is but i dont like it.
