Did I get scammed on this American Defense Manufacturing mount?

I bought this mount from a CGN member. I paid $200.00. The mount arrived yesterday and I immediately noticed that "MADE IN USA" and "AMERICAN DEFENSE" had been covered up with black sharpie. Strange. I proceeded to install the mount and couldn't help but feel that it wasn't up to par for a mount that goes for nearly $300.00 Canadian new. I started looking at ADM's website, and couldn't find a mount that looked like it. I also noticed that the seller used a picture of a real ADM mount in his ad.

The brought this to the sellers attention and his communications have been less than stellar. The levers on mine are different, and I'm wondering if I purchased an older model that's since been discontinued, or an outright fake? Here are some pictures:

That doesn't look like an ADM mount.

I agree, it doesn't look like anything on their website. It does say "American Defense" on the side, however someone tried to cover it up with black marker. The little American flag logo is still there.

At this point I'd just like the seller to send me my money back and I will mail him back his mount.

Black sharpie doesn't mean much. I cover up white print all the time as I get sick of my property being used as free advertising. It comes off with most gun cleaning solvents.

However the mount does seem off. Probably an airsoft clone. Best way to know for sure is email the company and include a pic. I see many good clones these days and airsoft stores not noting them as such. I've even seen some real items, discontinued stock and current items, being sold as airsoft. I think one company got around ITAR this way as they still can't export to Canada "the real deal".

When the time comes.

I hope not. Just trying to confirm authenticity of an item. Not slagging the seller by any means.

Good idea. I will email ADM.

At this point I am giving him the benefit of the doubt that he may have not known himself that it was a fake... He has a history of good transactions here which I'm not looking to tarnish.

I'm sorry but no. He knowingly misled you - why would he use a stock photo of his product and not pics of the actual mount he's selling? I think it was intentional, and people need to held to account for their actions. Negative feedback is in order for using misrepresenting photos.

Yeah thats pretty messed up to use a stock pic and then send something questionable. Good example of why, as a buyer, you should ask for pictures of the ACTUAL item being sold so you can get a clearer picture.

Stock photos are fine, as long as you are selling something in as-new condition. And you know, the stock photo matches the product you are selling.....

He didn't even use a stock photo I don't think. He just used a photo someone else took of a real mount on their gun. Wish he'd return my emails. Do you think his local police department would get involved?

At this point I wouldn't be thinking about hindering the police with a low level fraud. That's making mountains out of mole hills IMO... But you should most definitely name him on this thread. That will be of more consequence and more useful than taking up a LEO's time with this transaction.
That definitely doesn't look like my American defence mount.
Out the guy. For the rest of us making purchases on the site.
Sorry for your luck.

No. Scammers often use stock photos or ones lifted from the 'net.
