Did Ithaca ever make a stainless steel Model 37?

Hello all,

I've recently become aware of an Ithaca Model 37 DS Police that is going to go up for sale in my area. A friend of mine (who is quite knowledgable about older guns) told me that it was made of stainless steel (rather than nickel or chrome plated) and was quite rare, but I can't seem to find any info on stainless Model 37's.

Does anybody know if Ithaca ever made these in stainless steel? Or a good way to tell true stainless steel from a chrome/nickel plating?

There were matte and satin nickel plated Deer Slayer Police Specials, but I've not seen a stainless one ever. Many of them were actually mode 87's made in the 1990's. upposedyl some were also hard chromed in later years (matte).
