Did my Dad score a rare beast?

If he used the proper rings , it is fine. there is a post about #3 on right now back a bit.
The rare part is having the orignal factory sights ( 3 pieces) front globe, barrel open sight and receiver peep sight.
They are not Rare, but not that common.
In the 1980's quite a few came into the country , 1950's dated ones usually, there will be a date stamped on the gun when you get it.
#3 and 4's are heavy barrels, 1 and 5 are light barrels, #2 Don't know, never seen a 2.

A serial number of 00032 is indeed an early Brno 4. I understand they went into production in 1956.

A poster on RFC indicates his Brno 4 is proofmarked 1956 and has a SN of 1059x. If that's correct, a lot of Model 4 rifles were made in '56.

A couple of mine where 58, but don't remember serial #'s , may be in my records, but they would not be low numbers.
I think the newest one I have had was '58

Hi, the rifle Dad bought has the iron and globe sight with all the inserts, and I think the tool that came with it.

I have a rifle marked Brno #2, thin profile sporter barrel, but not short, beautiful figured walnut Bavarian stock. One piece non swiveling sling rings. It has a hooded front post sight and tangent rear sight. Very light, trim rifle. Stupid accurate, with very tight chambers. Of all the .22 rifles I own and have owned, this is my all time favorite.

maybe a 2 is a 1 with target sights? and his end wood? some one will know. Google I suppose.
What I do remember is that back in the day , I was buying 3's and 4's for low 300.oo, and retail was usually in the low 400.oo.
Complete set of sights these days would cost that much, I would think.
these guns will shoot , I had a 2000.oo that would out shoot the #4 , but not by much.
All the ones I have had had where beech, thou I did redo a couple with battle scars, and stained walnut color with a deep alcohol stain.
All this was 20+ yrs ago.

A #3 is a #1 action with a heavy target barrel.
A #4 is a #2 action with a heavy target barrel.
A #5 is a #2 action with a #1 sporter barrel.
#1/3 actions have squared off ejection ports and 2 stage triggers.
#2/4/5 actions have rounded ejection ports and single stage triggers.
#2 is the direct ancestor of the CZ452. Longer sporter barrel with tangent rear sight vs shorter sporter barrels with tri-leaf rear sights on the #1 and #5.
#1/3/4 have 16 mm dovetails, #2/5 may be 16mm or 11 mm depending on date of manufacture.

Good to know!

Can you install and after market 452 stock for a no# 2/4 Brno something like the Don Stith stocks?

CZ 527 pic rail 16mm works for the Brno #4 which opens up your ring options

I sold a like new No 4 quite a while ago - all sights, Fox rings B&L 6-24 with multiple 5 and 10 round metal mags. The real question about rarity is the length of the barrel, there's a standard heavy weight, and a Biathlon version (rarer) with a longer heavy weight barrel I believe it was 22 inches, possibly longer (it has been a while). Mine was made in '56. Unfortunately a lot of these rifles were cut down for Silhouette shooting.

There was also a batch brought in by Pragotrade which had been rebuilt and refinished.

I have one of the rifles Century imported. Great shooter.

That's a beautiful example of a No4, complete with the correct sights.

Now you need to acquire a proper sling, for offhand shooting.

I don't think you will have this issue, but there was a batch of those rifles brought in that had "bulged" barrels.

Some of the bulges were almost imperceptible, but they still shot well.
